cylinder head torque settings bmw 318i m43
Hi dear40,
The m43 engine should be similar to both the m42 and m44. The cylinder head torque settings are 22ft/lb and 90degree torque angle, and another 90 degree torque angle. Make sure to wait approximately 10minutes before performing the 2nd torque angle.

RUNS FINE WHEN DRIVING BUT THE MINUTE YOU SLOW DOWN AT JUNCTION IT JUST IDLES LOW NAD WANTS TO STALL. Please can anyone help me solve this????
at the engine, there is a small sensor that helps increase or decrease the rpm of the engine. Perhaps yours is soo low, that when you slow down, it's almost about to stop.
The other problem could be the airfilter sensor. If it's not properly fixed or if the sensor itself is a bit damaged, than the engine is not getting enough air and so, let's the engine almost go off.
Please give further details if this has not helped.
thank you

Hi,
I have a 1999 BMW 318i SE and pretty much since I've owned the car the airbag light has been illuminated on the dash, I've tried replacing the fuse but the light still hasn't gone out, has anyone had a similar problem? Is this serious or can it be fixed without too much expense?
Any help woul be great!
Thanks.
Aaron
airbag light one morning when I started the car and had stayed on since then
something in the airbag system is at fault. it could be the airbag(s) itself or any of the sensors that detect a crash to deploy the airbag. i would really take it into BMW and have it checked & repaired. the airbag(s) will not deploy with this light on so your safety is at risk if you are ever in an accident..

I have a bmw 316 compact, when idle it revs on its own to 2000rpm, also when driving for no reason the engine will cut out and wont start for a few mins, but when the car does restart i have 2 warning lights on, ASC and a YELLOW warning light (!).
any help
would be gratefully appreciated
Thank
wayne
When your ASC light is on this is to let you know your Automatic Stability Control system is switched off press the ASC button Till light is off /ASC is on this works with your rev limiter and should stabilized your idle. If the problem persists have your throttle control unit checked as thi can trigger the ASC light as well and may also activate the ABS light if not fixed

we removed thermostat completely as it was getting stuck from the bmw that has cooling problems, changed radiatior, water pump and checked heads
Also check the radiator cap. If the spring in the radiator cap is worn, it is not pressurizing the cooling system properly and therefore it will cause the vehicle to overheat. This is often overlooked and is a cheap repair. Every additional pound above atmospheric pressure that the cooling system is under causes the boiling point of the coolant in the system to raise 3 degrees F if memory serves me correctly. So, if the cap is old it will boil at 212 instead of 230 (for example)-and cause the system to overheat--even though everything else in the system is new/operating perfectly. If this is not your problem you may want to check to see if the cooling system itself is, indeed, holding pressure. You can get a gadget that fits on your radiator from any auto parts store to pressurize the system--after you pressurize it...leave it alone for about 20 minutes and see if it maintains pressure. If it doesnt, you have a leak somewhere. Hooah.

97 bmw 318ti mass airflow sensor diagnose code P1140 comes when starting the car i replaced maf problem still exists checked hoses all okay,
The p1140/121 code indicates the MAF was not as expected compared with values from IAT, TPS, CTS, IAC command, and RPM. Meaning all THOSE sensors and the IAC solenoid position data have to be working and in normal range for the MAF to test normal and not code. Further, any vacuum leaks will ruin the MAFs accuracy when compared to the others, as will a PCV/CCV problem.
If you lobbed a MAF at it already...you have already done the least likely and most expensive part. You really need to look at data and see what the DME sees. Is throttle showing closed at idle, is air temp normal? Is RPM under 725 idling, does it flare idle up and down in 10 seconds. is there any vacuum leakage anywhere? even a small amount can make a code level of difference?. Intakes leak a fair amount. CCV valves much more likely to leak, as are the hoses to it. TPSs dont fail that often but can. IACs usually code when they fail...but they could plug up and not code but have improper air bypass that affects the MAF reading. Throttle cables/adjustment is critical...keep that high on priority list.
