Accelerate Problem BMW 1992 318i
a bad camshaft position sensor or a vacuum leak. Most likely sensor. Is your check engine light on? you can test sensors with an ohmmeter to determine if a sensor is good or not. It wouldn't be bad to check and make sure your coil packs aren't bad by checking each plug for spark. You can lay one plug and wire at a time one engine so end probe of plug is fairly next to metal. Have someone crank while you watch for spark.

Idles at 3000 rpm
Your problem seems to be the "Idle control unit" It controls the idle control valve. The box is sometimes green or black and is located in the glove box ceiling next to the ECU. It's approx 4" x 6"in size.

Hose get hard then overheat
Sounds like you have a bad thermostat which is stuck closed. This does not allow cooler antifreeze into the engine. Replacing the thermostat should solve your problem. Thermostats are generally cheap and can be easy to replace on most vehicles.

Are the cooling fans turning on? Check the flow of the coolant in the radiator. Once the engine is at operating temp you should see the coolant flowing and then the fans should turn on. If the coolant doesn't flow the thermostat could be stuck closed. Double check the wiring harness and make sure everything is plugged in.
