So where is the instrument light dimmer switch on a 2008 Nissan Altima ?

When the accelerator is depressed in any car, there is always a mechanism there to enrichen the mixture to maintain the fuel to air ratio. On your car. it will be a MAP(Manifold Air Pressure) sensor in conjunction with the TPS (throtle position sensor). One of these could be the problem. Be sure the air filter is clean as well. You likely have leafs stuck inside the chamber. Remove fan and clean it out

One of the keys is not programmed, or is a bad key causing the no start. Watch the red security led when the key is first turn to on, the led should turn off, indicating a good key

There is a cable that goes from the motor mounted on the right side rail that runs to a small gear box on the left rail, more then likely the cable has popped out of either the motor or the gear, it’s flexible and can be popped out fairly easily, even having bottles under your seat can cause this problem..

This sounds like the mode selector is stuck on heat. Under the dash is the location of the hvac plenum and you need to check the cables and levers that are on it to see if they move when heat and cold are changed as well as the lever for where the air is directed.

If is is only smoking when you first start it up. Most likely the valve guide seals, oil is leaking into the cylinders and smoking when you start it up.

Clean the idle air valve with carb cleaner. Replace O2 sensors. Your upper O2 sensor is weak causing a lean fuel mixture after it is full warmed up and at low rpms. Say less than 900. You can run a scanning tool that will check your O2 sensors to see if it is bouncing voltages of about 0.5 to 5.0v several times per second to adjust fuel injector output. If that's not it it may be fuel reg, filters, fuel pump, etc. 1st question you need to ask yourself is, "am I up to date on all maintenance". This includes O2 sensors.
