when is it suggested to get the timing belt replaced in a 2002 nissan xterra? what is the average cost for this job?
I recommend 60-90K Cost depends on the dealerships labor but usually when your doing a timing belt, radiator hoses and fan belts are removed and should be replaced while your in there. Its about 3hrs, more if other things need to be replaced while in there. So you looking at $300+ for labor only

i have a 2001 nissan x terra se 4x4 v6 and im wondering how much oil do i need for an oil change, also i was going to put 5w30 in (i live in canadas far north) for winter. any thoughts?
The 3.3liter motor requires 3.8 quarts of oil. 5w30 should be a good oil for the extreme conditions required in your climate. Most new car manufacturers now recommend 5w30w so that says volumes - hope this helps!

Im working on a 2001 Nissan Xterra, it is idling rough and has almost no power. It already has new distrubutor cap and rotor, plugs and wires. Also replaced the crank sensor by the bell housing. Im pulling code p0340 and i cannot find the camshaft sensor. My code reader pulls that code and relates to Bank 1.
the camshaft sensor is located into distribuitor.......The camshaft position sensor is a basic component of the engine control system. It monitors engine speed and piston position. These input signals to the ECMare used to control fuel injection, ignition timing and other functions.
The camshaft position sensor has a rotor plate and a wave-forming circuit. The rotor plate has 360 slits for a 1° (POS) signal and 6 slits for a 120° (REF) signal. The wave-forming circuit consists of Light Emitting Diodes (LED) and photo diodes.
The rotor plate is positioned between the LED and the photo diode. The LED transmits light to the photo diode. As the rotor plate turns, the slits cut the light to generate rough-shaped pulses. These pulses are converted into on-off signals by the wave-forming circuit and sent to the ECM.
The distributor is not repairable and must be replaced as an assembly except distributor cap and rotor head.
NOTE: The rotor screw which secures the distributor rotor head to the distributor shaft must be torqued properly.

My 2001 xterra has been throwing a random misfire code acompanied by an intermitent hessitation between 2000-300rpm and I can't figure it out. I recently installed new head gaskets (had an external coolant leak) and a timing belt. thought I left a connector loose or maybee a ground wire but over the last couple weeks I have gone over everything with a fine toothed comb (replaced all ground straps and checked wiring). I checked the intake tube for cracks, reset the timing, ajusted the throttle position switch to spec, did an injector/intake cleaning. I did a full tune up in July of '09 (cap, rotor, plugs wires, fuel and air filters) and checked the plug gaps before reinstalling them after the head job. Was thinking it may be time for another tune up, or a possible injector issue, but that would set a specific cylinder misfire??? Could it be a distributor that is "dying" (this distributor has the cam pick up and coil built in) or a sticking EGR or crank possition sensor ??? Any help would be great, thanks.
nissan xterra codigo p0300 random misfire cual es el problema que devo de hacer para areglarlo

i have a nissan exterra 2001 and my check engine lite came on and took the car to auto zone a the machine read code p1441 manufacturer control auxiliary emission controls what this mean? \
what you want to do is take it to nissan and scan it with the consult2 diagnostic system to tell you which of the many things in the system have failed.
the EGR is the most common.

Where is the iac valve in the vg33e engine?
The IAC valve is located under the back end of the intake plentum, drivers side. Yes you have to remove the intake plentum to gain access to it, It's held in place by 4 10mm bolts and has one hose connection. The gasket will tear so have a new one on hand. The valve can be cleaned using spray carb cleaner. You can check the two solenoids apply 12vdc to the two pins inside the connector, WARNING only apply it for a second at a time. The ECU (engine control unit "computer") pulses this solenoid and doesn't apply continued power all the time. If the valves inside fail to move then most likely the IAC is bad and needs to be replaced.
