Where is the check engine light located on a 2001

I do not know where on the dash panel it is located but if you take a flash light and shine it in the dash you should be able to read the label or icons for each light compartment.

Our 2001 Nissan Xterra engine died at traffic light. Power seemed normal but engine will not run. 5 weeks ago we had it in for a tune up and oil change. Any thoughts on why it died and will not run

i assume that "power seemed normal" means that you can get engine to turn over, but not start.possible problems: clogged fuel filter, bad fuel pump, water or other impurities in gasoline, foreign matter in gas tank, faulty "electronic distributor", possible blockage of adequate air supply, broken timing chain.if i were to have to guess, it would be the timing chain, especially if car was running well prior to this problem.

Misses when cold

could be your fuel filter, timing, spark plug wires, add drygas to tank, red bottle has fuel injecter cleaner, use it , every tank fill up. air cleaner should be replaced as well. at lease do all the above, except timing see what it does for you
