This is a simple misfire on Cylinder 4. Check plug, leads and coil. Run some Injector cleaner. When A timing belt breaks, the best way to see if the engine is still good is to retime the motor, put a new timing belt on without the covers or anything else in the way or replaced, (that way you can see the belt and timing marks moving) and do a compression test one each cylinder. you're not looking for compression to be at specs, you just need to have a compression reading on each cylinder. if you have compression in each one, finish the job up and it should work. if you have no compression in one or more cylinders, chances are you have a bent valve. that involves pulling the heads off and having them gone through.

hint: To reset the timing on the engine move each gear just a little at a time swtiching between them each time. If you start to feel any binding that feels like you're hitting a piston, you probably are. it's normal to feel some tesion from the springs, bout you can still turn the gear with a little effort. it's tricky to describe the difference, but once you feel the spring pressure, you'll know what the feel of a valve on a piston feels like. if this happens, just move the crank a little bit and then go back to the cams. take your time and you'll be able to get the motor re-timed.

i beleive its on the l/h side (drivers side) next to your left foot. its mounted on the side of vehicle right above the kick panel. its a black squear with red button inside of it.

Worth engine cold check coolant level



Carefully with the engine warm place your hand on the two heater core hoses at the back passenger side of the engine compartment. If one is cold compared to the other then you need a heater core. If both are about the same temp then you probably have a stuck blend door.

Sounds like the 'Anti-Theft' vehicle immobilizer system has been engaged. If you have handy access to your Vehicle Manual, check there first to vehicle specific hints and tricks. Alarm systems are supposed to 're-arm' themselves after an incident triggering an alarm. This may take a few minutes during which time it ignores the key fob transmissions. If you can open the door but the engine won't start with the key or start button, try resetting the alarm with the key in on the "ON" or "ACC" position and using your fob button. If the alarm starts again, silence it with the fob button again. OR (Assuming your battery is in good condition and the gear selector is in PARK or NEUTRAL) If you have access to the hood release, disconnect the NEGATIVE battery terminal for 10 minutes to force a reset of all electrical functions upon reconnection. Make sure you don't touch the cable to any other part by slipping an old sock or mitt over it for safekeeping. (You might lose your radio and climate control presets but they can be reset easily once the main problem is bypassed.) Test the DOOR LOCK/UNLOCK button to verify that power has been temporarily disabled to the entire vehicle. After the wait, reconnect the power cable securely and try to start the vehicle.

Best to get a manual. You have to remove the timing belt cover and related parts connected to it. Once in there take a really close look at the timing belt and components. If it were mine, I would replace all of it while in there. Yeah, it goes from $70 to $200 for parts, but you really only want to do this job once. At a shop the cost is $800 to $1000.

Could be bad blend air door operation due to vacuum leak, bad vacuum check valve or bad actuator.

One possibility is the fuel pump is letting fuel drain back into the tank when the engine is off. Every time you turn the key on it allows the pump to run for 3 or 4 seconds, and that pumps up the pressure until it gets high enough to start the engine. So check fuel pressure with a gauge.

Have you looked for a direct short from one of the larger positive leads?

Hi Elena: It may take a bit of inconvenience, but try to check the transmission to see if the wire from the reverse sensor switch is dis-connected. If not, I'd be checking the switch with a continuity meter to see if it has failed.

check the fuse? then it may be the switch at the stalk

Run it again. When it gets hot, check to see f the fans are coming on. Check fan fuses and relays. There are other things, but Nissan's are usually good about cooling the engine.

remove dashboard, if you don't know what your doing don't touch anything.

Try a search on images. You may get lucky. Is there not enough wire left in the plug to tell where each colour went?
