Engine turn but don't start
Yes, pull out the kick start. The kick start is a bent metal lever usually located on the right side of the bike.
Set the kick start lever pointing straight up, with the flat rod part of the kick start facing outward from the dirtbike. This will align the pistons, which will help the engine turn over when you kick the lever.

How many miles on the car?trans?
High miles =complete trans change.
Low miles= just the solenoid.
Did you check for a low mileage used trans?
All cars run on used parts.
Also a independent trans shop may do the job for less.
I would estimate....change pressure solenoid and fluid/filter change...about $400

The knock sensor is located under the intake manifold to replace do the followingDisconnect the negative battery cable. Remove the intake manifold. Disconnect the sensor connector. Remove the sensor from the engine block. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure
My tag light, tail light, and parking light will not turn on

Here for a small fee. I suspect the headlight switch is defective but confirm there are no other issues before replacing the fairly expensive switch.
Where is the starter located on the 2002 Protege
Starters are usually found near the transmission or not far away from it. Check the engine bay around near your transmission and it should be connected to the side of your gearbox or connected to the flywheel. I hope this helps.
