Question edited for clarity. Question moved from Ford to Dodge Stealth. Pops normally come from engines. Does the engine still run? If not, the gearbox has locked up. It is very puzzling.

take to trans guy cheap.fix 100 bucks plus siloniod or two unless your guy is a theive .

It sounds as though your connection is not grounded. The starter take a lot of juice from the battery and your connection has to be solid. Check and make sure it is free of debris and make certain that all connections are secure. There should be no wiggling in wires. Make sure also. That you don’t have a starter ”fuse”. U definitely do have a thermal issue with the traits you have described. The diagnosis you got is spot on. But shop around for the part since most places will not allow the return of electronic parts.

check your distributor cap for a HAIR LINE CRACK this normaly is the problem as it expands when hot and shorts out replace the ROTAR ARM as well

Because it is. Change the fuel filter. Wouldn't hurt to throw in some injector cleaner on the next 3 or 4 fill ups.

do you have fuel pressure?relay under panel on right side of consel

DEALERS CAN CHECK THE MODULE.

If anyone can figure it out (besides the dealer) it will be AutoZone. I carry any problem that I can't figure out to them and they will keep on until they figure it out. If they can't then you will have to take it to a dealer, which I know ou don't want to.
