My vw will crank but will not start running i

Hi,

If the engine cranks over normally when you attempt to start you car, but the engine does not start, the problem may be NO FUEL, NO SPARK or NO COMPRESSION. The engine needs adequate fuel pressure, a properly timed spark and normal compression to start.

1) To find why the engine won't start, remove the air inlet tube from the throttle body, push the throttle open and spray a small amount of aerosol starting fluid into the engine. Crank the engine. If it has spark and compression but NO FUEL, it will start and run a few seconds before dying. If it does NOT start, it probably has NO SPARK.

2)Another method to check for spark is to pull a spark plug wire off of a spark plug (if it has plug wires, coil-on-plug ignitions do not) and place the open end of the plug wire near a metal surface on the engine. Have a helper crank the engine while you watch for a spark. DO NOT hold the wire while doing this as it can shock you. If you see a spark, the problem is not spark, but most likely NO FUEL or NO COMPRESSION. If you do not see a spark, the problem is in the IGNITION CIRCUIT.

3)Proper fuel pressure is critical for fuel injected engines to start and run. You should hear the fuel pump inside the fuel tank buzz for a couple of seconds when the ignition is turned on (no buzz means the pump is not running and the engine is not getting fuel). You can smell the tailpipe for gasoline vapors after cranking the engine. If you smell gas, the problem is likely not fuel but NO SPARK. You can also remove the plastic cap and press the Schroeder valve test fitting on the fuel rail to see if there is any fuel pressure to the engine (not a very accurate test because fuel pressure must be at a certain level for the engine to start, for that you need a gauge). Even so, no fuel at the fuel rail would tell you fuel is not getting to the engine.

Thank you!!

Why is fuel door stuck?

probably has a broken/missing opening spring at the hinge ( make sure the fuse is good) you will need two people --one to operate the door release and the other to try to pull the flap open (may need a flat blade to do the job)

My epc and engine light came on and won't star

First of all you need to access the Engine Control Module (ECM) using suitable diagnostic equipment connected to the data link connector of the car, in order to pull out all DTC's memored. DTC = Diagnostic Trouble Code. Then you will bu full informed about the root cause of the problem, and you will be able to repair & replace bad pieces and reset the ECM. Then the EPC (Electronic Pedal Control) yellow light will turn OFF. The check engine light: tdisline_743.jpg The check engine light & EPC light: tdisline_744.jpg

My 2001 passat stopped in mid drive I put oil n it but it still won't start.lights n everything works it justo won't start!!!! Help

my advise would be to check for dtcs in the ecm. remember, every gas motor needs gas to run. fuel pump may have gone out. if the car cranks and the timing is ok then i would check for fuel and spark. I have also seen the engine speed sensors go bad and cause the engine to stall at times and also have excessive crank times.keep it simple. air, fuel, spark, timing, compression? check all the basics and i have no doubt you will find the solution to the problem.

2001 vw Passat auto, n reverse, any help

Two things can happen here. First, does the car seem sluggish on take off? If so, the the low/reverse band has broken(no first gear either). If you think or know you have first gear, then the reverse clutches are burnt or a sprag has broken. either way you have to remove the transmission and disassemble it. Best left to a technician. Many small parts in it that have to go back in the right play. Easy to loose one also. Springs and such.
