your continually removing the battery terminal is what is causing the problem
the ECM cpu program is continually being corrupted by the terminal removal and when you wipe the codes ( read it as reset the ECM) it works fine until you touch the terminal again
permanent solution is ---leave the battery terminal alone

When you open the throttle you drop the vacuum in the manifold very low so should not be hearing a vacuum in the dash. You may be hearing an exhaust leak near the engine compartment as air tries to escape in a plugged exhaust system as you open the throttle and fill it with exhaust.
Put it in drive and with one foot on the brake, open the throttle a little until you get the hissing sound.Have someone listen outside the vehicle for air escaping from the exhaust. If it is still an interior noise, you can also find it more easily stationary with the engine load applied.
BE CAREFUL WHEN LOADING THE ENGINE THIS WAY!

You started at the wrong end with the repairs. You have a 2002 starter, its old replace it. If your battery is 3 years old replace it too. I have never seen a Nissan cat. converter go bad (expensive) Let an OBDII scan be your guide to parts replacement. These cars a very dependable if you follow the maint. schedule in your owners manual. They rag out quick if you don't.

jumping the terminals of the starter will turn the engine over but unless the ignition switch is working , there is no circuit for the spark so it will not start
