In 2006 BMW developed what they Condition Based Service (CBS), this means even when you change the oil and filter, the only way to reset the service indicator is to take it to the dealer, to be hooked up to thier computer. I have the same problem, I am waiting for some aftermaket code breaker to be developed to fix this problem. Hope this helps, let me know.
How to reset 2006 BMW 5-series brake pad light on
Firstly ( assuming you have replaced the brake pads) you MUST replace the wear sensor with a new one. Lower drivers window, With door closed, lean thro open window and put ignition on without starting, leave for 15 minutes minimum, switch off, then start car. If this fails and you are unable to cancel warning via I drive button, then an appropriate scan tool will be required.

hi dibblesmith
when you pull the hood/bonnet release, push the release back in to make sure its in all the way, then try and close it again. the cables sometimes get stretched or one of the clips that hold the cable in position has failed. if that doesnt work and the retaining clips seem ok, try some lube on the latch and work it back and forth by hand to make sure its not sticking.

there could be two solutions to the problem
1) change the battery on the remote!
2) change the transmitter on your key! This would need to be re programed by your local dealer or lock-smith or you could attempt to do it your self if you know the programming sequence

The battery needs to be registered to reset the energy data that is stored in the vehicle.Without this being done you may run into short battery life and possibly energy consumers shutting down (ie the blower not working at full speed)
Are there any ticks to be aware of in removing and
Hi Scott,
These units are usually mounted inside an anti theft bracket and are made difficult to remove.
The second point to keep in mind is, that when the battery is removed (disconnected) you'll very likely lose the anti theft encodement and you may not be able to start the vehicle, until it's been re encoded....Check your owners manual....that may give instructions to be followed when disconnecting the battery...

was this problem there before replacing battery? if not a loose connection at battery or in battery compartment the code is a temporary code and when connection severs the code is cleared check the time after starting till problem occures and see if there is a pattern to how long it takes
Brake Fluid indicator light on. Does this
No. As you use your brakes, the calipers need fluid. The reservoir holds the fluid. when it get to a certain point, a sensor will let you know you need fluid in there. If you see no drips on the ground, you might just need fluid.
When changing the battery on
Loosen the battery anchoring. Start the car before disconnecting the battery, Remove Negative first, then the positive. Be very careful and insulate the positive terminal once it is removed so it doesn't come in contact with ground or the negative terminal! Replace the battery, reconnect the terminals (positive first) and then re-anchor the battery to the car. If you follow these instructions, you will not need to re-program your car.

Need to replace the battery
I need a little more information to answer your question.
If your car has the 3.0L 6 cylinder engine;
Part Number: 48-72
Cold Cranking Amps: 730/Cranking Amps: 915/Reserve Capacity: 130
If your car is has the 4.7L V8
Part Number: 49-72
950 CCA/760 EN CA/100 AH Reserve Capacity
Both have a 72 Month P/R Warr 2yr Free Replacement warranty.
These are taken from the http://www.oreillyauto.com web site. However, I would recommend that you go to a quality battery vender.

2006 BMW 523i shaking in the mornings
Strange, it sounds like you've got a dead spark plug, but that would be continuous, not only in the morning, the other explanation could be that the engine management is injecting too much fuel, flooding the cylinder, and wetting the spark plug, which would explain why you need to wait 5 mins for the fuel to evaporate. Try disconnecting the battery for 30 minutes to reset the EMS, if that doesn't help, get to a workshop and let them check the EMS with a computer, the electric choke may be sending the wrong signals to the EMS. Hope this helps!
