Sounds like your trans cooler inside of the radiator has failed. You need to replace the radiator and have both the cooling system and transmission flushed. Do Not Drive the vehicle as the coolant in the trans fluid will cause the transmission to fail.

I am not familiar with this model but petrol engines usually use a signal from the ignition system for the rev counter and diesels need a special sensor. However the rev counter is almost certainly unsuitable because petrol engines tend to rev much higher than diesels.

The car is full of digital electronics and switching duties carried out in many cases by black boxes via unconventional circuits; often an oscilloscope is more use than a voltmeter in fault finding and a deep understanding of the systems involved.

A deal of detective work is likely to be needed - observation. When the lights come on do they come on cleanly or is there some flickering?
When they come on must they be switched off or do they go off without interference?
Do the lights normally illuminate when the central locking/alarm/immobiliser is armed?

Studying the wiring diagram should reveal the pathways by which a fault could send current to the headlamps. Often, for instance, the headlamps can only be operated when the ignition is switched on but such things as the horn, hazard lights, interior lights, parking lights and headlamp flashers are typically on a battery circuit. If this is so it increases the chance of the problem being with the wiring of the multiway switch (indicator, flasher, dipswitch)...

Most all Auto Part Stores sell Haynes Manuals. Get one that covers your vehicle but before you buy it make sure it says on the front page "Includes Wiring & vacuum diagrams. That manual should cover everything on your vehicle bumper to bumper. Hope this helps you wth your problem.

This sounds like a recirculating air door actuator with stripped gears, listen for a change in sound when you move from recirc to outside air, when on recirc the noise inside the vehicle will be greater than when on outside air. Remove the glove box to look at it I hope this helps. Take care.
