Parking brake won't release but hand lever moves
Hi
Thanks for using FixYa. In Jaguar XKR the parking brake is controlled electronically unlike the cable ones. The voltage applied to the electronic Park Brake module is
applied at the same time you start the engine, consequently on a very cold day
the battery will be far less efficient and due to the extra power required to
start a very cold 6 cylinder engine the voltage will fall.
Although this reduced voltage will quite happily start the car it will trip out
the Parking brake. To help avoid this problem happening again switch the
ignition to position 2(position just prior to starting) and press the chrome handbrake
tab down while having your foot on the brake. The brakes will be released, the
park brake light on the dash will go out and you can now start the car.
On the new XKR module the electronic handbrake is not activated by the gear
shift as in the later S models so you can start the car and then release the brake
when the engine is running.
Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.
Thanks
Rylee
Parking brake on 2000 jaguar
There are two cables in housings that come from the rear wheels and are exposed to water from the road which results in rusted cables and interiors of the housings. Replace both parts on each side. Make sure that you get new rubber boots for the open ends of the cables.

Hello
You will need to get the drive universal joints checked for excessive wear and at the same time it is on the car lift have it checked for other sources of noise, this is a eyes and ears on type of problem. If this is a vibration problem and a resulting noise then it can be an exhaust system support bracket has broken loose. This is very difficult to diagnose over a keyboard.
XKR 'drivers door open' message
Hi Colin,
The switch on the door must need adjusting. or be defective....It would be a good idea to have a scan carried out to find out which?

Battery wont take charge
Check the battery for a dead cell. Even no maintenance batteries have caps that can be removed. Once removed, use a battery tester (<$5 most auto parts stores) to determine if there's a dead cell. If no dead cells exist, then the charging system aka alternator/regulator have issues. Before doing further analysis, ensure that the connections are tight and free of corrosion.
Brake rattle
make sure all bolts were tightened properly to caliper.may be loose.
