2008 pt cruiser that went dead while turning; car has over 125,000 miles; was told that timing belt was broke; how can I confirm this?

U can check it by removing the timing cover very simple it is held on by clips or 2 10mm bolts remove the cover and inspect the belt look at the cogs on the belt for wear or any missing I do not know if your engine is a zero tollarance engine what I mean by this is if it is a zero then if the belt were to snap the engine would rotate the valves into to the pistons not good but don't worry about that just get the cover off and start there also who told u this was broke also have you ever had it replaced if so by whom ?? Because there's a right way and a wrong way the wrong way is to just slap a new timing belt in it the correct way is to replace the timing belt the accuators which keep the belt aligned and true to the engine also the water pump is driven off the timing belt so check that and hit me back I have 30 years of auto mech experience so I've seen it all and by no means would steer you wrong cause what good would that do some people or backyard mechanics not all . there are good ones if u can find one some of the posts that were sent to u were just ridiculous and u yourself had to say WHAT THE HECK ARE THESE YAHOOS TALKING ABOUT ... So check your belt if it's good you will know it with your eyes and one more thing does your pt cruiser start or crank over like it always has or does it seem to b faster and freed up a bit ?? If you see the belt intact I would lean twords a fuel issue like a fuel pump please let me know what u find and describe what u see in detail and we'll see what we can do to fix this problem thanx and have a great day smile it's good for u regards Chris ......

I was driving down the interstate and my car lost power. Rpms went down and died.. radio, air and everything else works will not start back but sounds like it is cranking.

Do you have normal compression, fuel pressure, and spark when cranking the engine ? Hopefully the timing belt did not break.

2008 PT Cruiser brake pedal will go in about an

the first thing to do is to check the front pads, and the rear shoes, as instructed in the manual to make sure that all the calipers and pistons are moving freely and there is plenty of friction material left on them. if it does this when backing out, i would pay special attention to the handbrake mechanism on the rear drums as something may be stuck or jamming here.

any problem on the brakes needs to be sorted out as a matter of urgency, especially if there is any instance of brake failure as you have described.
if you do not feel confident or compentent enough to do brakes yourself then it is of vital importance that you get the system checked by a competent mechanic at the earliest possible time.
