Rear hatch won't open on my 2008 Pt Cruiser. It doesn't have power assist, you have to push up under the logo on a rubber sealed switch. How can I open it?

The hatchback vehicle and similar has an inherent problem that has been increasing since the rear screen wiper was first fitted to them. Wires must pass from the vehicle body into the tailgate and at this point the wires flex every time the hatch is opened and closed. Standard wiring is not designed to flex so much, so often, for so long and in such a wide temperature spread yet the vehicle manufacturers use standard cable rather than "extra flexible wire" and arctic rated insulation so it isn't surprising to sometimes find one or more wires at or near that stress point have broken. Usually this isn't a great problem or inconvenience - except when the vehicle has an electric tailgate release and that is the wire that has broken.. The fault with your tailgate could be a lack of supply from the front or a break anywhere in the supply or a faulty release switch or even the release mechanism itself but apart from checking the fuses there are few practical steps to take until the tailgate is open. I have so far been called upon to open two such tailgates and not being a car thief or a locksmith I know only one way and that is to climb inside the luggage space and to do whatever it takes to remove the interior trim panel from the tailgate. It was then relatively easy to disconnect the release and apply 12 volts to the exposed terminals via a pair of probes and I was lucky and the lock instantly released. One needed a new push button and the other a wiring repair.

What could cause a popping sound coming from around the A/C compressor when I turn on the air condition. Seems like a overpressure. What could cause this? .

There is a high pressure pop off valve on the compressor. This will usually go off indicating a blockage in the system. There is an orifice tube/ filter in the system that is the probable cause of the blockage, but you figure that we are talking about a sealed system that does not allow foreign materials into the system from outside, so if there is debris in the system that has clogged the orifice tube, where did it come from? The only moving component in the system is the compressor. I bet there is an expensive repair in your future.

I have a 2008 pt cruiser, i don't know where to add water... does anyone know or are there any demonstrations that would be helpful to me?

Kecia, where are you putting in the coolant, that is where you want to add distilled water. Save yourself some trouble and buy premixed coolant then you do not have to add water. If not using premixed coolant, mix coolant and water 50/50, or half distilled water half coolant before you pour it in cooling system. It also sounds like you are having a overheating issue which you should have looked at sooner then later. Is there a special antifreeze/coolant

those are company's but there are two different kinds of antifreeze. both do the same thing but are different colors red and green. you can run either one in any car but you can't mix them up. if you mix the it will gel up in time and make part fail. a local auto part store will tell you for free what type you have. hope this helps. thank you.

What might be the reason that the rear doors of this vehicle cannot be opened from inside the car even though the child safethy switch is so to disable the safety control.

There is also a safety control on driver's side door switch panel; (besides safety lock on the rear door itself).

2008 pt cruiser - check engine light came on, within minutes it started to "power down" and and died. Won't start. What could cause this? BTW have changed spark plugs, camshaft sensore, cranks

My PT did that when my timing belt broke. It cost $500.00 to replace it. If it is broken, be ready to have some motor work done. I had to have to values replaced at a cost of $900.00. If your timing belt is not broken then check the alternator and battery. I was riding down the road and my PT shut all the way down and would not start. I had to leave it beside the road. It was my alternator. It gave me no warning.

He timing belt broke. mechanic says replacement wont help because the car has over 200'000 miles on it. he says we need a new engine. do you agree?

Let's see what went on in the mechanic's head... Timing belt broke. Likely that means your engine also has bent valves, because that's what happens when the timing belt breaks while the engine is running. At 200k miles, likely the rings are pretty worn. Does it use much oil? How was the compression before the timing belt broke? Low? At 200k miles, I'd be thinking that once it's open, replace the bearings, too. They're likely worn out. Yeah, sounds like a replacement engine to me, too... Cheaper than doing everything to rebuild yours.

Does the car turn over or does it make any sounds when you try and start it. I had one that just wouldn't start it would turn over but would not start, It was towed to me I took the pipe off that comes from the air cleaner to the throttle body, I then took a tooth brush and sprayed carb cleaner on the throttle plate, cleaned it off with the tooth brush and it now runs like a dream.
