Do you have any warning lights? A faulty camshaft or crankshaft position sensor can cause this problem. Don't just go and replace sensors - get somebody to do a diagnostic check first

One very quick way to check the battery is to first turn on your headlights - then try to start the engine. If the lights go out = the battery is dead.
