Volvo 2001 s40 check engine light is on - autozone says its an oxygen sensor? How much will it be to replace? Is that what it really is and could it be anything else?

If the code says its the o2 sensor than that's what it is. i recommend finding a reliable local repair shop that will do a free diagnoses to give you a price on the repair. The average shop cost depending on the area is about $190ish. I recomend taking it to a shop rather than trying to do this yourself because i am a mechanic and these can be a bit rough to remove, and require a special socket. Stay away from the dealer.

Imobiliser warning light flashing car wont start

When this light flashes and you have the correct key then a problem exist in the system, the only way to diagnose this is to use a special scanner to look at the systems inputs and outputs.

Volvo s40 check light

The check engine light is turned on by the computer when the computer detects a problem. what happens is the computer stores a code or codes with the sensor or circuit problem, the first thing you need to do is go to an auto parts store and have the computer scanned for stored codes. they will give you a printout with the codes. if you get me the codes i will be able to help you solve this problem, for example the code would read like this PO301 cylinder 1 misfire detected.get me the codes and list the year, make and ,odel with engine size and i will help. note; the auto parts stores scan computer free of charge. hope this helps good day.

Hard to start cly 3 missfire smoothens out fast

You might want to pressure test the cooling system and remove the #3 spark plug. After the pressure tester sits on there for a few hours look into the combustion chamber to see if there is coolant. Misfires like these can sometimes be the result of a leaky head gasket. Also white smoke in the exhaust can be a sign. I assume the spark plug looks good?

Our car will not start...

Pretty common issue with the newer Volvo's seems that they used an inferior parts set for the electronic steering wheel lock and when it fails the key warning comes on. The fix is to replace the steering column and/or the lock barrel. Both parts come to around $250 total. Often this problem is either under recall and/or warranty.
I'd call the dealer to see if you can get the recall or warranty replacement.
if you are to do it yourself post another question and I'll walk you through it.

Hope this helps.

Check engine light code P0500

P0500 Vehicle Speed Sensor A Malfunction P1618 SBDS Interactive Codes Check the wiring going to the transmission. Look for a pinched wire from the car being put on a rack or possibly an accident you may have had recently. If you can find no problems with the wiring or connections then it is time to see a professional transmission expert. It may just be that the transmission has an internal problem.

The engine manegment light is

1997 Volvo S40 1,9 Diesel Turbo - Engine code: D4192T

Volvo type trouble code identification: EFI-411
Fault location: Throttle Position (TP) sensor
Probable cause: Wiring, TP sensor.

First step is to check the TP sensor wiring & connecting plug. Repair as necessary, and erase the Engine Control Module (ECM) memory from errors & reset the ECM.

If the TP sensor wiring & connections are in good condition and the problem still occurs, and the Engine Control Module (ECM) memory can not be erased by faults, then replace the Throttle Position (TP) sensor. Then erase the Engine Control Module (ECM) memory from errors & reset the ECM. The engine management light will turn OFF, and everything will be fine.

I have a 97 s40

Error code 122 is 122 Solenoid S1 open circuit.-------- The 122 code is for the S1 Solenoid, open circuit. The transmission gear solenoids needs to be inspected. --------- And the other code is 411 is 411 TP sensor signal. For this error the throttle position sensor located on throttle body needs to be inspected. It can be sensor itself that is got faulty or the sensor wiring.---------- --------- This is not very costly repair. But it depends upon what part is getting replaced.Basically for both throttle position sensor and solenoid, the part cost is approx $250.But extra charge for repairing and labor for the tech. Also if any other fault detected , then cost may increase.---------- Getting it checked and replaced is advisable.---------- Thanks.Helpmech.

Lost the only key to

Did the old key have a fairly large handle to it, like one with a radio or infra-red unlocking button?

If so its probably got a built in immobiliser circuit which needs to be programmed to your car. You'll have to go back to the dealer or check out your user manual to make sure.

The dealer should be able to re-program it for you but if you can get a price then shop around.
