Could be so many things need more info. When it cuts out, does it act as if it's running out of fuel-- sputtering, or just dead on/off? If the latter, I would suspect bad ignition module, coil, crank/cam sensor. If the former, could be fuel pump, relay, filter. These intermittent problems can be tricky.

You may have abad clutch.

run fault codes to check for problems . If there is nothing then you may have to have a lap top computer connected and an expert reprogram the ECM cpu to reset the settings for the engine tuning parameters.. It has to be done in the ECM program and best done on a chassis dyno so that the settings can be tested immediately and adjusted if necessary.

I would first check the operation of the turbo actuator to see if the variable vanes around the exhaust turbine are free to move and that the actuator is working . Sensor fault or leaking vacuum hose to actuator. The black smoke at idle will be lack of sufficient air at idle for complete combustion and the late boost rpm's indicate that the turbo is no spooling up at the low rpm's that it should be. At this point I see the problem as the turbo ( possible blocked exhaust system) and not the settings for the rockers.

so, either the resistor pack or the blower is broken... if it does not go on full speed (no resistor used) expect the blower... take it out and connect to 12V to test or measure resistance, must be low, < 1 ohm..

Manifold Pressure sensor (MAP sensor, probably located on the intake manifold somewhere) has an Implausible signal i.e. going out of a plausible range. you could try removing the connector and reseating it. I've seen this a few times where just reseating the connector fixes the problem, if not it'll probably need replacing.

There will be a pull wire from the inside handle back to the door latch. They are held in normally by a plastic clip that is prone to getting brittle and crackig off letting the wire fall out of the latch. You will probably have to remove the door trim and you see what I am talking about.

I would have the windshield resealed first.
