Electrical short

1. Try locking and unlocking the doors five times with the remote to reset the immobilizer. 2. Key in ON position push Open button on key fob.

Sounds like shift linkage needs attention.

I suspect that the throw bearing carrier has been fitted on the wrong side of the throw out fork and has the pressure plate permanently disengaged.

Get close to the car, hit open button 4 times in succession. Voila.

The theft prevention electronics can cause it, The engine control module can cause it, the ignition control module can also cause it.

Usually the resister is mounted on the air box. You will see a small plate with four or five wires on it mounted to the side of the air box. the resisters are on the other side of the plate where the air flows past.

clean batt. terminals and cable ends. try it now. next, swap relays with one from junkyard. try it. oops, forgot the BIG 1, try it in neutral and/or jiggle shifter. could very well be a bad connection on neutral safety switch. if manual trans, may be bad connect on clutch pedal. it's under dash, high on clutch pedal. jumper either one.

It sounds like your 9-3 is in Limp-Home mode. In which case, you are right - it is hitting a temporary limiter. The most typical of the causes I see are from an aging Direct Ignition Cassette (DIC). When there is a fault detected in the DIC module, the throttle body lets the throttle spring kick down to what is known as Limp-Home mode. Although it can be ratcheted back to the normal position, if the DIC misfire is detected again, the same will happen. I'd have a shop take an OBD-II reare to it and confirm. If it is the DIC, replace it, and have them reset the error code and the throttle body. I hope this get you back on the road quickly with your Saab! (I drive one, too)

check the bulb holders as it sounds like a corroded connection somewhere ,if the front work ? if the fronts not working either then check the fuses as there is a fuse for each side of the vehicle lights
