Hyundai Atos ( manual) dosen't pick up speed and jerks

Hi there, it could be a change of spark plugs will solve your problems. I'm driving one too but found that it jerked when accelerating. So I read up and presumed that the old plugs might be the cause. After changing new spark plugs, it doesn't jerk anymore.

Car will not start - no clicking sound when providing ignition, wipers and lights worked fine. Mechanic started it with external starter - says its a starter motor problem - need another opinion.

Don't you trust your mechanic ? If he's any good he would have done a voltage drop test on the starting system . This test would eliminate connections an battery cables as the problem . Leading to the conclusion the starter is bad . Any lights like anti theft lit ? SECURITY , Immobilizer On the instrument cluster . Starter Voltage Drop

Why does it smoke a lot at morning start up?

Depends. You could have weak or worn valve guides and allowing oil to leak down into the cylinders overnight. The piston rings could be full of carbon or weak and allowing oil into the cylinders. Or you could have an air circulation problem where the crankcase is under too much pressure. There are other causes too.

Replace cam position sensor

The Atos has a timing sensor located at the bottom of the engine by the cambelt drive sprocket (gear). The drive sprocket is bolted to the crankshaft with a timing plate. The sensor is placed next to the timing belt. There are no cam timing sensors on the cylinder head. This is a very basic engine.

How do i change the fuel filter

Not sure i know where it is on this year ,To be honest i rarely need to change a fuel filter on a petrol engine vehicle .Diesel yes on the peugeot /citreon range of diesel engines as they seem to get metal swarf in them (long story) but petrol engines unless they have somehow got water in the tank with the old metal type fuel tanks via condensation but modern vehicles with polypropalene fuel tanks no problem.Anyhow to change a fuel filter then locate where it is and just change as the system will self bleed

Hyundai atos crank sensor keeps failing

I know this post is very old, but nonetheless I hope this helps anyone else researching this problem. The cam belt gear located on the crankshaft wears done on the inside of the gear. This causes the gear to "wobble" and hence touch the timing sensor, which damages it and results in its failure. This wearing of the gear is by design and Hyundai should be taken to task for this. The crankshaft does not have a key between it and the gear. The crankshaft has "flattened" sides which match the gear and prevents it from "slipping" on the shaft, but with time the flattened edges of both the crank and the gear wear out and the gear wobbles slightly. This then accelerates the damage and can cause the gear to begin to cut into the aluminium engine cover and the main oil seal. The only resolution is a new crankshaft and gear or sell the car.I have had my battles with Hyundai and did not win, even though i could show a design fault. I hope someone out there can take these guys to task and actually win and so create a precedence for the rest of us.Good Luck
