I think your shifter tube is broken and this is stopping all electronic communications because the tabs for the shift interlock are not depressed to check slim Jim the passenger door and go to the bottom of the steering column there's a triangular bracket that the shifter cable is attached to and try to move it into park or see if it's wiggles also the shifter lever at the steering wheel if there's a lot of movement your shifter tube is broken you can drop the steering column to fix it with a new one

You lock trunk with regular key and give out the valet key, which cannot open trunk.

First, I wouldn't be at a dealer

I mark all my drive shafts, as installed, and take
them to a driveshaft shop that,makes or repairs them

newer MKZ is front wheel drive ??

Having once owned a trans repair shop, your
transaxle ,if that is what you have, will have to
be stripped clean, to do the bearings your talking
about

On a rear drive, such as my LS, you still have to
remove the rear differental case and strip it, for
brgs

The $700 sounds like a dealer fishing for a solution
to a rear wheel drive vehicle with a vibration

They try a new drive shaft,why not,only your money

Do a search by putting in your code on goggle and it should come back and tell you the fault.

Find your power steering pump under the hood of the car. It should be low on fluid. You will need to fill it to the mark on the cap/dipstick. Use a Dexron/Mercon fluid. You should keep some handy to refill it if it does this again. If you have any oil dripping underneath the car, you may need to have the power steering pump or hoses replaced. Be blessed.
