I have a 2001 Outback Ltd Wagon. Driver's door is closed and locked....and won't unlock with remote/ keyless entry/ key. Any help would be great!

You will have to remove the seat from the other side ,then get the door panel off to see what the problem is ,offhand i cannot think as the lock should be seperate and even in a failsafe position it should open from the inside so i can only assume that a metal link bar had dropped off and jammed the lock into the locked position but no doubt iam wrong as i very often am but the only way to find out is to get the door panel off

Problem with my traction on ice or men hole it does not respond

If chucks are tires, you can never expect very much traction on either ice or wet manholes. Though, some are better than others, usually those with adaquate ice traction are snow or winter tires. For driving in constant ice conditions, you will need studs. But, studs cannot be used on pavement, at all.

How do I fix breaks that lock up

  • Either your brake pads are frozen or your calipers are stuck. You will need to do a brake job. If it's just the pads you need to clean the pad bracket of rust and replace the pads. You will know if the calipers are stuck when you go to push the piston in. If there is little more than a little resistance or you can't get the piston to move at all, then it's a problem with the caliper and it needs replacement.

How to charge a car battery while battery is in the car

No, do not disconnect your car's cables. Connect positive cable to positive one on charger cables, & negative to negative. Attach to DEAD battery FIRST. Then attach to car that's giving you a charge. BOTH CARS MUST BE OFF DURING ATTACHING PHASE. Then the car giving you a charge must start theirs. Let both sit like this for a few minutes (usually 3-5 minutes is plenty). Then try starting your car. If not charged enough, turn yours all the way off & continue charging for longer period of time. YOU DO NOT REMOVE THE CAR's OWN CABLES AT ANY TIME DURING OR AFTER THIS PROCESS, BUT ONLY WHEN A NEW BATTERY IS BEING PLACED IN YOUR CAR.

FUEL FILTER FOR SUBARU OUTBACK

If your Subaru is a 2005 or later, your car is not equipped with a serviceable filter. If it is 2004 and earlier, it will be mounted to the drivers' side strut tower under the hood. There will be an arrow on the top of the filter, make sure it points towards the engine. I hope this info helps.

If you can't torrent them, try a Chilton's manual. Not free but better than trying to get them from the dealer.

Reset key fob

Unlock all doors, foot on brake, all doors closed. Cycle key quickly but carefully on-off appr 10 times until the car honks one time. Do not turn the key far enough to start the car, just to the 'on' position so the dashboard lights up. When the horn honks, open and close the driver's door, press any remote button and that's it. Program another remote? Quickly open and close the driver's door again and push a button on the 2nd remote. That's it. When you're done, remove the key and the horn should honk 3 times. You're all set. Sometime it takes more than 10 on-offs to set program mode. Open/close the door, lock/unlock etc, wait 10 minutes, then try again

2003 out back will not start it turns over but wont start

A clogged fuel filter may be the problem to your Subaru not starting or a fuel pump problem. The list of reasons why your Outback will not start and run goes on. A gasoline powered engine requires three main components to start and run, proper amount of fuel, oxygen and a spark. I personally had a problem with my fuel pump not turning on and pumping the proper amount of fuel to the injectors. A fuel pump is easy to replace and remove. Do to the nature of gasoline being extremely combustible and corrosive I would HIGHLY suggest having your outback inspected buy a mechanic that is qualified to work on Subaru vehicles. I also had a problem with the coil pack not providing enough power to the spark plugs. Replacing the coil pack is relatively easy a 10 mm socket will remove most of the bolts that will need to be removed. The coil pack essentially provides the spark for the engine to continue running. This is a part that is commonly over looked by DIY mechanics. I did at one point have a problem with a sensor that would detecthow much oxygen the engine was using and needed. I replaced that and my Subaru ran beautiful. If what I have mentioned above feel uncomfortable for you to replace please have a qualified person fix your Subaru with there hands.

I have a 2010 subaru outback that stalls constantly when coming to a stop. Any clue why this may be happening or what can be done to fix it?

It sounds like it has lost it's base idle setting. These are fly-by-wire which it is computer controlled. Has the battery been disconnected lately? Any codes stored? Could also be dirty throttle valve.

2001 Subaru Outback has super strong exhaust smell coming into the cabin. I also see a small hole in the muffler. Could the hole be causing exhaust to come in through the vents or is it something el

Its possible, but usually what you smell inside the cabin is coming in thru the fresh air intake in front of the windshield. The source is usually in the engine compartment.
