Where does the blue an

an alternator has a power out wire a smaller power in wire to excite the field, a ground wire for the field and a large ground wire. Most ground wires are brown. And most power wires are red. You check check the wire for ground and power with and ohm/volt meter. Put the voltmeter on volts and connect the black wire from the meter to ground and the red to the wire, turn on the key and if you have volts it is a power wire. If no volts the turn the key off, select ohms and attach the black meter wire to ground (such as the frame or any metal) then attach the red wire to your blue/white wire if you show 0 ohms or low ohms then it is a ground.

I have a Saab 9-3

My guess would be that the valve timing is off. Did he machine the heads at a machine shop? Have the valves checked/done? New head gasket? New head bolts? What year is it? It sounds like you may have 2 different issues with the starting and it running rough...however, does it smooth out after you let it warm up? Is there an engine light on in the car? What are the codes?

Have a 2004 saab aero 9-3. Recently battery died.

I was having the same problem with my 2004 9-3. I assumed the starter was bad and replaced it. I then charged the battery and found it wouldn't fully charge. After charging for several hours when I removed the charger I only showed 11 volts at battery posts. The new battery tested 12.8 volts and the car started well. With the car idling I tested and showed 14.6 volts at the battery post which confirmed my alternator was charging.

I do believe I replaced the starter in error and that it was just a bad battery. When my battery was failing I had dim headlights and flashing displays that you described and the clicking noises also. When I put jumper cables on my saab and let the bad battery charge for several minutes the car would start right up and the headlights would brighten up and even though the battery was bad the idle voltage at the battery posts was increased to 14.6 volts coming from the alternator.

Remember to remove the jumper cables quickly once the car starts to avoid possible electrical problems.

I have had bad starters in other vehicles that would draw a huge load on the battery and jump starting them would sometimes give enough voltage to turn the engine over and start it.

Bench tests aren't always correct because the components aren't under a true load. I had a brand new alternator fresh out of the box last year that was bad and wouldn't put out good voltage even though it bench tested perfect. Go figure.

Check your battery voltage with the engine off. It should read over 12 volts if its charged.

Have an '02 Saab 9-3

Have the catalytic convertor checked, sounds like it may be trying to stop up. Some cars have an exhaust vent between the exhaust manifold and the exhaust pipe, it could not be operating properly. The purpose of this piece is to help the engine warm up in the winter to get the heater working faster. Most of them are vacuum contolled and the vacumm line might have a small hole or the cast iron unit is old and just stuck. you might free it up if you can get it off to work with and lube and replace on the car.

Abs and traction lights stay on saab 9 3 2005 1.9

The abs light , when on turns off the traction control thats why that light is on,once the abs is repaired the traction light will go out, you need to first have the computer scanned for codes, the codes for the abs are stored in the abs computer, these codes will tell you what part of the system is not working. most of the time its a wheel speed sensor but scanning the codes is needed to find out,
