Your owner's manual should explain all the instrument lights. From what you say it looks like a MIL (Maintenance Indicator Light). This is the car's computer's way of telling you to get to a maintenance shop and have them check the ECM (Engine Control Module).They will put a DRU (Diagnostic Reading Unit) on the car and tell you what is wrong. Could be a plugged fuel filter. You crank on it for a while and won't start, all the time pressure is building on the fuel against the blockage, you stop trying for a while. When you finally go back and crank on it some fuel has gotten past the blockage and it starts. Then will keep running because the fuel is now moving. If this isn't the case, after you replaced the fuel filter, then it isn't getting power to the fuel pump at first meaning there's something amiss in your fuel system. Possible an electrical sensor that tells the pump to come on when the switch is first activated.
