No, Motor comes out the top. Remove hood (With a friend you trust) remove all water hoses from engine, remove wiring from top of engine to fuse box on fender (Be careful if clips are a bit stuck), Undo Exhaust at Manifold / Pipe joint ( This will be a challenge, WD-40 and heat will help), undo transmission bolts ( Support Trans ) then remove torque converter bolts through Stainless access port, Undo Motor mounts, Chain with large bolts bolted into accessory brackets lift slowly in case you missed anything like Ground wires (Be careful with these as they can cause weird problems later in life) Go Slow, Find a good buddy that has done this before buy him a few beers Not an 18 pack!

ENG 1 - 20 amp fuse - under hood fuse Box . This fuse powers the O2 sensors heater circuits , Emission - purge an vent solenoids , mass air flow sensor , camshaft position sensor an A.I.R. intake recirculation relay - if your vehicle has it , L31 only I would look for wires for o2 sensor melted on a exhaust pipe or manifold . Isn't your check engine light on ?

Speed sensor is most likely goin or gone out. It is located on the drivers side of the transmission tailshaft. Speed information runs through the cruise control and the computer to the speedometer.

Sounds like a bad head gasket, leaking from a water jacket into an exhaust port.
