P0008 CADILLAC - Engine Positions System Performance Bank 1
The ECM detects that both camshafts on either bank of the engine are mis-aligned with the crankshaft for more than 4 seconds or a cumulative of 50 seconds.

The Engine Control Module (ECM) monitors the position of both camshafts and the crankshaft. The ECM performs a test for misalignment between both camshafts on one bank of the engine and the crankshaft. During the test the ECM learns the position of the camshafts and the crankshaft. While the engine is idling, the ECM compares the position of both the camshafts and the crankshaft with the learned value. The ECM will set the P0008 code if both learned values for one bank of the engine are exceeding a calibrated threshold in the same direction.

Symptoms
- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)

Possible causes
- Engine mechanical problems
- Incorrect timing chain
- Stretched timing chain
- Failed camshaft actuator or actuator solenoid

There is a factory service bulletin for the following Cadillac models:

2004-2008 Cadillac CTS SRX
2005-2008 Cadillac STS

The service bulletin suggest replacing the primary drive and both secondary drive timing chains. Contact your Cadillac dealer for more information. The repair could still be cover under factory warranty.

The security, antitheft or lock picture/icon is a visual indication that something in the car's antitheft system is failing. In most GM cars and trucks there is a hidden system that most people are unaware even exists. From the moment you put your key in the ignition, there begins a constant line of communication between your key's security chip or transponder, to the ignition's lock cylinder, and then to the car's TDM (Theft Deterrent Module). These 3 parts are in CONSTANT communication. If the key is in the ignition, then these parts are sending signals to each other. The security light illuminates when that signal gets broken, even just for a second. When the signal breaks, the car misinterprets this as an attempt at theft and goes into antitheft mode.. Make sure your steering wheel is not locked in either direction. Try moving the wheel left or right. If you can get it to move a little, hold it while you switch off and remove the key. some SRX's have a tab below the key on the steering column. You may have to do the wheel thing in order to push the tab down, then remove the key.

What type of gas are you running in the north star? what you describe sounds like a valve rattle from preignition what i would do 1rst is fill the car up with premium gas (93) octane it will be expensive but a lot cheaper than running to the dealership drive the tank till empty and then resume as you were if this solves your problem you just saved yourself a few hundred dollars if not go to someone like auto zone and have a diagnostic done to see if any codes are stored there may be something with the timing of the anti knock sensor could be bad i would try these steps first before spending all of my money at the dealership if all else fails you can call gm yourself and see if they are having similar complaints from other customers. hope this at least get you started on the right road.
