Computer says 'trans fail safe
Your car is in "LIMP" mode. The computer sensed a fault from transmission and has set it in "LIMP" mode so it's still drivable but it needs to be inspected by BMW. It could be something as simple as a dirty connection or moisture or possible early warning a more serious issues, but have BMW dealer look at it before it gets REALLY costly and leaves you stranded.
My 740il missing and running
Hi, I recommend you check the fuel pressure regulator for a torn diaphram. The regulator is at the fuel rail on top of the engine and looks like the picture below. Pull the vacuum hose off the regulator and plug it with a golf tee. Then start the engine and watch for fuel to come out of the vacuum port of the regulator. If fuel comes out, replace the regulator and the car should run much better. Please let me know if this isn't the problem or if you have any other questions, and thanks for using FixYa.

its a possibility that the blend door actuator in heater, is either broken or is sticking. its inside heater box. go to any auto parts store to purchase a haynes manual for your car for about 25.00. they are based on a complete teardown of vehicle. if you cant find info. go to dealership and they should be able to set ya straight. have a good day !

Hello
i have bmw 740il 1996
The first thing that you should check is the crankcase ventilation system. You have to be sure that all the tubing and the oil separator and its drain tube are clear and clean. On a 14 year-old car with ~200k miles on it? You are due to need to have that system cleaned out.
If that is not the problem, the prognosis is not good. The other likely problems are all expensive.
I have a 2005 BMW
Did you put cheap gas in it recently or lower octane rated gas? Also, make sure your gas cap is on tightly.
If the cheap and easy answers aren't working, I would get a Peake code reader and see what the errors are (you may have a misfire). I wish I could give you more but this is a good start in determining what is going on, there are so many reasons why this is happening and by having the code reader you'll be able to isolate the problem better. The Peake reader gives you more specifics on the errors since it's specifically designed for BMWs.
Hop this helps!
My mechanic did an overhaul
Well sorry to tell you this but hes not the type of mechanic i would have working on my car BMW or any other car as all vacuum hoses are fitted on all engines for good fuel /even running etc
but the thing any mechanic would have is a vacuum piping chart as we all have them and some older cars only have 5 pipes but the later ones have up to 14 pipes so get the print out and do it yourself .

745Li BMW manual
Ebay is a good source for owners manual. If it's service manual you're in search of check Amazon.com or BavAuto.com
Just had the valley pan
please explain what you mean by valley pan ,now heard of a dog kennel and pigs tails and trunk for the boot and hood for the bonnet but this is a new one on me ,these bolts can come loose and drop out if they were loosened up for anything and not re-tightened properly but this could have been done before you bought the car ,older models with V belts can and do work loose on their own ,hence a proper service fleet vehicle style to ensure everything is correct and not a dealer style service where its profit motivated by changing everything in sight except a proper inspection
Engine light on.
Hello Wade.
When the engine light comes on in any late model vehicle it has set a code in the computer due to a malfunction in the system.
The code will need to be read with the use of a scan tool or code reader.
Once the code is determined then it will need to be repaired depending on what it is.
Sometimes the code will lead to a direct repair, other times it is only a clue to the next step in the diagnosis.
When you are able to provide us with the code or codes we will be able to assist you further.
Thank you for using FixYa.
