Would search first inlet air leak in between air box and engine - all hoses on, clamps tight no cracks
then disconnect idler control - about where the engine accelerate cable comes in / most probably opposite. Problem still there?
look for ignition - plugs, check leads with multimeter, connections

Not sure I follow your wording on the different temps. If the system is full of coolant and working correctly, the thermostat should open at 195 degrees which would be several miles down the road. Once the thermostat opens both radiator hoses should be warm. If the water pump is not working the engine will get hot very quickly.
Have you tried running without the thermostat to see what happens ?

Have you used a OBD-II scanner to find your issue? The car will help you find out what is needed to fix it. Remember to clear the settings after fixing something. This will help pinpoint your issue. If the same issue arises then the issue is another part. Read those codes supplied with the unit. It will help eliminate possible multiple problems. I have included what the codes mean in the following link How to Read an OBD II Engine Code Best of luck

It depends on what type of brake system your vehicle has. disc all four wheel or front disc and rear drum . when the abs light is ON its a wheel sensor problem which is located near the wheel hub.

I've had the same issue in another car. Have a transmission flush/filter change and drive it. Mine lasted till I sold it 3-4 years later. it could be a stuck valve inside to regulate the pressure during the gear change. I would the flush a try.

If you reattached the hose and the light went out or the code cleared then if there was the same problem it would be back on in short time . If it is still out and you want to be sure that you fixed the problem have the fault codes read to check for any faults recorded.

Could be plugs or plug wires...have you replaced the air filter lately?. Call your local auto parts store and see if they have a code reader... I know that Advance Auto does. They can plug it in to you car and it will gve you an idea of what is causing your Check Engine light to come on. Elantra are great cars and will run for many, many miles if you perform minor preventive maintenance. Plugs, wires and aitr filters are relatively inexpensive and not too dificult to install.
