No you don't need to pull transmission, you drop the pan off the transmission and the shift solenoids are attached to the valve body. Measure the fluid you take out and put back in the same amount, DONOT OVERFILL THE TRANSMISSION, IT CAN DESTROY IT. Check the fluid level hot.

Your Continental is equipped with a TRANSAXLE, and I can think of four different solenoids, not including the internal shift solenoids, associated with the transaxle. It may be better to describe what your ISSUE is, so that a diagnosis may be suggested for you.

Pull Fuse #31 in your driver side under dash fuse panel. Bottom means closest to the floor. Second row from bottom. Second fuse in from driver side door 15A. Controls all interior lighting and courtesy lights. Under hood and trunk. Pull it and your good to go until you drop off to have the control module replaced. You're Welcome!

1999 car in USA? Innova what model is it.? best is the one that does all FORD factory codes too. P1xxx UP,etc. Innova, OBD2, scan tool (I have 2) here are the steps, 1: fresh batteries in INNOVA 3x, AAA . 2: fuse that runs pin 16 power on OBD2, Power in not dead but is 12vdc or it fall fails. (car fuse for this pin not blown) 3: connect INNOVA 16pin plug to 16pin jack at knees dash edge 4: turn on INNOVA and scan . , the manual if free, if lost.

Make sure you have brake lights.This is were the shifter solenoid gets it's signal from to get it out of gear.
One thing you can try is turn the igntion switch towards the run postion stopping just short of activating the electronics.Then try and move shifter to neutral then you can start it and out it into gear so you can drive it to get it fixed.

Using your keyless entry on the keypad, press the 5 digit code to get into the door and press the 6 key immediately after. Lincoln has several codes in addition to the 5 digit keyless entry like pressing the 3 to open all the doors, the 6 for the trunk and pressing the last 2 buttons at the same time to lock the doors.
