You would need an auto electrician or a transmission expert to connect a pro grade scan tool computer and diagnose if the switch or solenoid is faulty. the linkages shifter to box must be good PRNDL, for sure R , D and L. all must to go detent. under stand what detent means? if N is in the actual N detent and fails to 1st gear the shift valve is bad or the clutch pack1st is stuck. the servo for 1st clutch is jammed. that is a bad transmission. N and R are hard failed. lots of miles on it I bet, 200k+ miles.

This is and has been a major problem for the Dodge ignition cylinders for a long time now. A quick fix is to spray WD-40 in the ignition. Then try the key again. The lock cylinder is the problem and can be changed for a little over $250. But it has been huge problem.

Are you having any other weird electrical problems like, stereo door speaker not working or power window or door lock not working? If you are it may be a bare wire in the door wiring. That is a common problem on 2004 Rams. Normally it is a rear door if it is a quad cab. Short is normally in the boot going from the door to the cab. If not then the problem is probably the dome light switch found on each door. I believe it is in the door handle and each one would have to be tested.

Dodge 1998 1500 4x4 5.2 engine did a tune up cap wires rotor plugs routed wires as per diagram still having power problem when up to tempeture. I see a green vacume hose comming up on the drivers side of the distributer which has shat looks like a check valve on the end of it. followed it back to the transfer case. does the distributer end of it belong connected to something? Please Help Thanks!!!

Mr. Blake, no engine told. not what fire means, ? he means RUN not FIRE! gee if it can NOT crank then it can not start (will mine can by push started or gravity started) 6speed M/T (grin) on all modern trucks, like we do this. 1: fuses all good 2::no crank we jumper cable jump crank it, first as all tow truck driver do. (as seen by AAA autoclub, tow service) watch them. 3: battery not dead.,charge it or have the shop load test it. or the lugs are loose and green with rust, clean them. 4: alternator not dead, well jump start it and runs but battery voltage is not 11v to 15vdc running so the ALT is dead or its HUGE 100amp fuse blown. 5:PRNDL dead, shift to N and cranking ,if good, P switch is bad. the users manual shows how to crank it in Neutral using the brake pedal (keyon, step on brake, shift to N) top fail is corroded battery lugs for 100 years. counting. or left on head lamps even tie.

It should be inside of the fuel tank. The pump, sending unit, pressure regulator, and filter are all in one unit.
