Flat battery. Or, you turn the key, it cranks, fires and almost starts and then dies? More reasons for that scenario. Check for diagnostic trouble codes. Did you disconnect the battery when you replaced the fuel pump? Did it work after that? 4.3L , L35(RPO engine) has 1 fuel pump relay PCM controlled has 1 fuel pump.oil pressure sensor , too. not sure at all me what a pulsator might be.Ahh Dampener. what matters is spark first, it must have spark or the PCM cuts fuel dead on all EFI car. (if the PCM detects spark bad in ANY WAY) the comes cranking the pump just receiver 12vdc cranking KEY ON ONLY is only 2sec prime puls best is forget that unless have 2 person to test prime, but cranking matters first. some new pumps are silent, (like top Bosch) so sounds prove little. today what really matters is PSI pressure cranked, the PCM brain or the oil pressure switch allow the pump to have power cranked, and running. that is how to test it, cranked only. "starting with start fluid,but now it just cranks over ,only." does this mean starting fluid now fails.? we check spark at all spark plugs no just 1. we check oil pressure to, if zero PSI cranked that is bad . last is fuel pressure if not at spec, it will not start. spec fuel pressure is 58-64 psi yes some fuel rails or near by or near tank, have pulsator that is really regulator/dampener. it prevents old cheap pumps from madly pulsing the rail and causing injectors to mess up. vane pumps do make pulses some worst tan others, (some even by pass it, but there is their call) Is this a TBI throttle body injection? or MPI. the SM states this. (it has a 2 second prime for sure) If the engine does not run, turn the ignition ON, but do not attempt to start the engine. Listen for the fuel pump to run. Within 2 seconds of turning the ignition ON pressure should be 58-64 psi (400-440 kPa) while the pump is running. Once the pump stops, pressure may vary by several pounds, then it should hold steady. If the pressure does not hold steady, wait 10 seconds and repeat this...

4wd , A/T box. brake are bad, and engine misfires.> we SCAN the PCM for P3xx or P7xx codes misfire and A/T errors (never skip this !!!) you do know any transmission brain (TCM will get confused if the engine is weak or misfires right, so engine is first to worry. but you said engine REVS (rpm up high) and car is slow and or transmission fails to up-shift, to 2nd in drive.?????? any tech in any shop sees the car, and scans it first. and see OMG dead transmission speed sensors or sees, gross misfire, or must drive it first to see what is going on. if up-shifts fail at the documented shift points the transmission is bad. or just 1 sensor on it. this is called DRIVE_ability issue that can only be solved by tech driving it and seeing it fail. not the blind, not me,but the shift points are what matters. and if the tech feels misfire or power loss even in 1st gear. he knows the engine has a problem. (or even both) 2001 is old car, most cars this old have like 10 ignored problems in the wild. classic that. or bad spark plugs and bad speed sensor both, a wild guess and common for sure. post VIN or the RPO code so we can decode drive-train there.

not S10 dead hv coil means input to coil is dead. on this car, 1996 we look at the distributor wiring ,et al. to know what's up with that. and fuses tops the list all EFI AND spark fuses. and ecu.(VCM) the VSM needs 5 good fuses !!! #4,5,9,10,12 then learn to scan the VCM on any 96 or newer USA car it has the new the OBD2 scan port (16pin) just like now. see DTC errors cranked, p03xx errors are all that. CMP error , CKP errors end spark for sure. crank sensor or cam senors, 3 wire HALL sensors and there and the best kind is HALL. the VCM (ecu/pcm) fires the spark control modlen and it the HV coil. if CMP and CKP are not dead. crank for 10second (release not off) and release. if either 2 sensor fail now the scan tool tells you so.. DTC p03xx code errors. cam must spin, and not be timed by kids.(or hold my beer)

• bad fuses (x5)
• bad cmp/ckkp (dead cam timed all wrong)
• bad spark control module
• bad HV coil

• bad VCM (if obd2 fails consider this, if no COMMS)
• rusty or loose connectors

is CEL/MIL/SES lamp in cluster dead it must glow keyon. or lamp dead, vcm dead or fuse to ecu x5 dead. hint1,use modern scan too, not one from 1996 era many the only did 1 or 3 uSA cars then, (lack of 3 ports is why) all; modern tools work here, 2005 year up

First start with a scanner and see what codes are recorded. You may have a communication link problem.

No there isn't. The Body Control Module (BCM) takes care of that. Check the grounds that are near the rear light, but you will need a good auto-electrician with a professional grade scan tool computer to check the BCM functions. Here is your Fuses and Relays.

Is the engine light on? If so you can hook it to a computer, if there's an auto zone close to you they will do it for you free of charge. I also recommend, laying under the vehicle and banging on your fuel tank with a hammer while someone else is trying to start it. It sounds odd I know but I think it may be your fuel pump, if it starts while your banging on it then it 100% is your fuel pump!Just a side note, I also had a 2000 Blazer and this happened to me a lot! So I'm suggesting this from experience. Chevy blazers are known for this issue.

Once you fix the part, you need a Code Reader / Scan Tool / Scan Tool Computer to reset the code and remove it. If you already did that, you need an auto-electrician with a Pro Grade Scan Tool.
