I have a 2003 Kodiak 450. When I am working around the yard, my cooling fan comes on normally and my ATV runs great. When i take it off roading, they cooling fan doesn't seem to come on and whenever i take it through water, the ATV shut off and does not restart for a couple of minutes. Any suggestions? SOURCE: Stalls out when choke off and reverse light blinks

The pilot jet is plugged up. Remove the water trap bowl at the bottom of the petcock, (gas valve). Is there any water or trash in the bowl? Drain a cup of gas from the tank. Is there any water or trash in the cup? Dump it, clean it and re-mount it, ( not all bikes have a water trap bowl ).

Drain the carburetor. There should be a screw on the lower side of the carb float bowl. Remove the screw then replace it after the fuel drains. remove the carburetor from the engine.

Remove the float bowl and clean the entire carb with a spray carb cleaner from the auto parts store. Wear protective goggles to avoid getting spray in your eyes. Spray into all the little airways and fittings in the carb. About 3/8" from the main jet you will see a small brass screw. This is the pilot jet adjuster. Turn the adjuster 1/2 turn counter clockwise. Make a scratch on the casing around the adjuster so that the scrach lines up with the slot on the screw. From this point, carefully count the number of turns until the adjuster can be removed. Spray carb cleaner into the jet then replace the adjuster using the same number of turns such that the screw slot lines up with the scratch mark.

< < READ CLOSELY > >
Remove the idle screw and the air screw on the outside throat of the carb and spray into the screw holes as well. Be sure to put these two screws back in the same hole they came out of. IMPORTANT > do not tighten these two adjusters down. Only screw these in until they LIGHTLY seat. Now turn each adjuster one and one half turns outward. Put the rest of the carb back together, clean the air filter and install the carb. Let the float bowl fill then start the engine. This process should get you back on the road.

SOURCE: 2008 450 kodiak atv

check the oil level in the differential. If run a long time low on oil it may have damaged gears and bearings. Look for leaks past seals and cover gasket.

1999 Yamaha Kodiak steering is all over the place. I notice it more on a paved road. What could be the issue?

replace tire should fix it and dont ride on paved road . tires are not rated for paved roads.tie rod ends , wheel bearings loose or bad , control arms . raise front end and look under atv wear if bad enough will b seen. shake each tire and have helper look under at same time to locate the problem. if one side bad replace both sides to prevent more trouble later on. always support both sides w/jack stands before looking under atv. be safe when shaking atv while on jack stands.

Yamaha 450 Kodiak battery not charging, new battery, volt meter not showing any voltage going to the battery

Hi Brian, get a digital volt meter and start the ATV measure the voltage at the battery or at the alternator it should read around 14 volts when charging, if it reads 12 volts the charging system is not working, check or a blown fuse or broken wire, if you can access the alternator directly measure at that point. It takes 14 volt output from the alternator to charge a 12 volt battery

I have 97 Polaris Express 400 I haven't ridden in a while. Put new battery in it, new fuel, cranks, runs great but overheats. I checked the radiator reservoir and it is full. Any suggestions? How can I...

U should have two sensors for the cooling system one is nerr the thermostat housing for temp light / gauge ,one on the cooler at the bottem left side should have two wires on it need to pull them off connect the two togather. That should make the fan come on, if not, look for a popped fuse should invest in a handheld inferred thermometer ,there really cheap .get them on eBay for between 11 to 20 bucks brand new use it to test temp on coolant hoses to see temp on top and bottom .if fan does come replace cooling fan temp sensor.
