If you can use the range shift and it doesn't engage, the linkages need adjusting. If it shifts into high and it 'locks up', there's a problem with the transmission. Not a unique problem but the Cat is expensive as far as transmission parts are concerned. A post that describes the transmission lock up and where to start looking -

Probably the ECM, if you have a good, charged battery, spark plug, wiring is not damaged, and kill switches are in "run".

Sounds like you have either a busted shifter fork. Or the pin in the gear selector has broken off or the bolt as come loose in the center of it and the pin has fallen out. If it's the shifter fork it's an expensive teardown. If it's the gear selector it should be an easy fix. Look at the selector gear first but when you pull the side of the engine be careful not to lose any parts.

1600ml is the Arctic Cat recommended amount BUT if you check the KYMCO manual (the '06 250 is a kymco made for AC) it says the capacity is 1600ml but when you change oil it is 1400ml. This might explain why my oil level always seems higher than it should be. You can check the level with the site glass on the side.

Also on the 250, you also have to change transmission fluid separately. It uses the gear oil NOT engine oil.

if this has been sitting,,even if it hasn't, #1clean or replace the air filter, #2have the carb professionally cleaned and set, and #3 replace the spark plug.

There are several places you can go on the web that have free atv repair/owners manuals. The owners manuals usually have a wiring schematic on or towards the last page also trouble shooting diagrams with instruction in them.

Did u choke it ? -stroke are very cold blooded Mine(2003) needs a choke after sitting 1/2 hr at 70 degrees.
