I have a Kawasaki klf300b quad 4x2 with a 3 wire ignition can anyone point me at a wiring diagram

Hi,

If I understand your concern right, whenever you connect the battery, the quad's starter motor will run even when the ignition is OFF.

The only possibility I could think of is that the starter relay's contact are fused together. Normally, the relay's contact should only connect when the ignition is on, the starter button is pressed and I believe in some versions/models, one of the hand brake levers is pulled in.

Since these products come in two (2) versions two stroke and four stroke and manufactured by quite a number of firms, there is no standard repair procedure.

If the big red or + wire from the battery goes to the starter motor directly, then the possible fused contacts are inside the motor assembly itself but distinct from the motor;

If the big red or + wire from the battery goes to a squarish small box, which is a power/starter relay, then the possible fused contacts are inside that small box. That box would have two big wires, one from the + of the battery as earlier stated and another going to the starter motor. Additionally, it would have 1 or 2 smaller wires. One would go to the starter button switch and the other to the ground. It is also possible that it is connected to the ground if it has got a metal body and therefore would only have 1 small wire.

If you have verified that it is the latter (using a relay), then you need to replace that relay.

In some instances, it could be the starter switched that has fused together its contacts though this rarely happens.

If your concern has not been corrected after completion of the above procedures, try to pls post back with pictures of where the + big battery wire goes to.

A service manual is a valuable tool with an aging bike. I suggest the dealer/mfr. or Clymer books. In the meantime, go to the library reference section...646 stacks should have what you need.
