I am not exactly familiar with this particular atv.. start with removing the gas tank, this should allow you to see where the fan is connected and bolted to. It should be a pretty straight forward operation.
Does the clicking sound you hear sound like the fuel pump pressurizing the fuel line? I am not sure if the TRX has a built in regulator on the fuel pump, or if it is separate, but it sounds like either the regulator or the pump, you can pick up most fuel pumps for ATV's on amazon for 20 to 30 bucks, I would try that.
