My stator is not charging my atv battery, and my speedometer also does not work.

limited info no year inside side case check and test fuse and battery before checking or messing with stator do online search for service manual

its either the voltage regulator (most likely) or the stator. you'll need a service manual to check the stator output.

battery is being drained as it operates and not taking charge

check tightness and clean both terminals and cables

how old is the battery
may have a dead cell ..wont take charge

check the charging input to the battery with a volt meter
has to be above 12 volts
if lower or equal to 12 volts ...no good
the charging stator inside the engine needs testing or repair or replace

stator is another word for an alternator or a generator


why it plays up
best guess the ATV if a 12 volts system wont run on 11 volts

115 ac volts at idle seems very high to me. if all 3 coils are putting out the same voltage I'd say its ok.

could be the stator or rectifier. rectifiers are easy to test since they're just a diode bridge to convert ac to dc. you'll need a service manual to check the stator. check the bluetraxx forum for one maybe.

Have you disconnected the battery and tried charging it to see if it would hold a charge disconnected? If not, the battery is probably bad. If it will hold a charge, then connect the battery ground cable, then touch the positive cable to the positive battery post and watch for a spark (make sure the key is turned off). If there's a spark, then something is pulling your batter down when the bike isn't running. Now if you have an electronic speedometer, dash gauges, etc., those will draw in order to maintain memory. Disconnect the wires to them then try again.
There's only so much I can tell you this way. I work on electrical systems often, and it can be a real process.

I'd guess bad wiring from the regulator. mine regulator burned up and I had to run a new wire from it to the battery.

stator or voltage regulator. are you riding with a space heater plugged in maybe?
