Hi the cable needs slack if you take all the adjust out meaning the is no free play in the cable your taking the pressure off of the clutch plates causing it to not be engauged.

SOURCE: Clutch will not disengage

Chances are the clutch lever assembly (where the cable attaches to the gearbox) has gotten out of position on the Axle push lever (the shaft that goes into the side cover and the lever is attached to). The shaft is splined for the lever to attach. Re-fit the lever on the shaft and try it now. If the splines are stripped then you may need to drill a 1/8" hole through the lever and shaft then insert a 1/8" cold roll split pin to anchor the two together.

The bottom of the axle shaft fits in the side cover and actuates a lever to separate the clutch plates. This mechanism could be bad.
If that is the case then get the entire COVER ASSEMBLY part number 5NY-15490-00. The assembly comes with a new shaft.

The clutch cover mount bolts should be 8 to 10 ft. lbs. This is not a factor in your problem.

SOURCE: '95 Yamaha YZ 125 clutch - stays in gear when clutch is pulled in

the plates will stick to each other because of oil
check the clutch lever at the motor and make sure it is moving the arm that pushes the pressure plate and make sure it is moving

SOURCE: !983 honda magna v45 clutch not engaging

if you rebuilt your carburetors you have made a mistake when you reassembled them a carb must sprsy a fine mist of "dry" fuel into the engine intake your carbs are flooding you need to check your fuel floats , jets and, don't forget to check the power piston circuit and, balance (sync) your carbs on the bike when you're done
your chuch is fine if you did not touch it

SOURCE: kawasaki ninja zx9r clutch problem

On your bike there are two clutch parts that can wear and cause this problem. The broken spring should be replaced but is not causing the problem. Check the bottom of the clutch release shaft #13102. The end of the shaft may be broken, bent or severely worn. The part the shaft engages with is the clutch rod #46102. It could be bent, broken or severely worn. This part is inside the clutch hub. Just remove the five springs and then the outer cover plate and the rod should be accessible.

SOURCE: 1987 yz125 clutch not working!

If you can see the actuator moving, but not disengaging the clutch, it usually means that the clutches are hanging up in the basket, or the actuator is bad and not releasing the clutches. The only way to tell is to take off the clutch cover and watch what happens when you pull the clutch.

I just put new clutches in 85 honda 250 four trax y are thay steeel sliping

Sometimes you need to adjust your clutch cable. as the disks wear out you have to tighten it to get it to disengage. if the cable is adjusted too tight then it will slip because it is not taking all the pressure off the disks so they can fully grab. That is where i would start

Yamaha banshee

14 - 41 = 2.93 ratio
15 - 46 = 3.06 ratio..
6-7 links.. you need to move the axle all the way forward when installing a new chain... (it will stretch!) moving the axle all the way forward gives you plenty of adjustment later!!

Can somebody help with clutch not engaging, starter works won't fire

if its semi automatic then youll need to rebuild the clutch which is inside the motor. if its not semi automatic, then pull the top end off where the clutch cable goes into the top end, and there will probably be a broken spring. or you just need a new clutch cable

Hey guys, I have a 03 banshee that a just had completely rebuilt. Crank, pistons, pipes, the works. When I got it back it ran great. Then we noticed it seemed to not be getting enough fuel in the power...

1. How could you tell it wasn't getting enough fuel in the "power band?"..i.e. the upper rpm range...?
A "power band" is simply the RPM range where the engine makes the most power.. it is more pronounced on modified two-cycle engines.. it is NOT something you can buy or have "installed".
Adjusting the float level only accomplishes getting more (or less) fuel in the carb bowls to make it available to the jets. >>The JETS are what (and ONLY what) gets the fuel to the engine!<<
Spark plugs are read to tell whether their is a need for a jetting change.. if you do not know how to do this - STOP tinkering with your engine-PERIOD!
You need a factory shop manual to get the necessary specifications of the ignition system,,(resistance values)...then and only then can you adequately check the wiring and related components...
What is a hot rod crank? I have built numerous banshee racing engines.. just wondering about yours.. $3000 in an engine.. it should have come with 34mm carbs, new head, ported cylinders, etc...jetted by the person that built the engine... if it didn't you need a new engine builder!!!
Do you live near North Alabama??

2002 yamaha banshee, it is locking up in 1st gear, all the rest work fine. I put in a new clutch-adjusted the shift lever and adjusted the clutch many times. with no luck. with the clutch plates and...

I am not really understanding what is going on...
.. OK...With ALL the clutch components and the drive chain removed - can you (in each gear) SPIN the main transmission shaft ALOT( 20+ turns) in the correct (drive) direction?..I think its counterclockwise.

It is important to remove the drive chain and all clutch components to do this check. You are checking for a SINGLE CRACKED GEAR TOOTH .. the crack will be at the base of a tooth.

Do this check exactly as described.. you are checking the functionality of the transmission alone. - no clutch-no drive chain. If you do have a cracked tooth, the transmission will only rotate about 340 degrees in either direction.
If it was the clutch giving the problem, it would happen in ALL gears...

After the check.. repost and we'll go from there.
