I presume You mean a Polaris Explorer 400 ATV, rather than a Ford Explorer 4.0 litre? I did some edits to fill in the blanks, but Fixya have mixed up the image for Polaris Pool Cleaners :>)

Your oil pump is important, so you need to check inside or just replace it. The other place to watch for pieces of aluminium casting is around bearings and seals. If they fail, the damage can be great, but castings can be filled and machined.

most likely a bad sending unit in the fuel tank replace it

2 cycle oil wont hurt it a bit,drain the gas out and start fresh,oil is good for a motor,smell the gas,it may smell bad,which means the oil and gas have congieled

you can pull the oil tube off the carb for a couple seconds while its running to see if it drips oil. I'd run a synthetic 2 stroke oil, lubes better and burns cleaner.

May be fouled plugs. If not check vent hose on carb.

if its the type of dipstick that unscrews usually you have to unscrew it first, clean it then dip it back in without screwing it in.
