Same problem with my mxu 500. Charged battery. Nope. Checked all connections in starting system. Nope. Swapped out solenoid relay. Fixed mine. Was cheap online- less than $20. Mine would start with jumper cables or batt charger on 80amp boost. Good luck!

Geez dont keep spending money if your not sure. It sounds like your starter is not throwing in far enough to engage with the ring gear. Please do your hip pocket a favor and get an auto technician to check it before buying a new starter as well. You can also remove the starter and check the gear to make sure its not worn as some are plastic.
Hi Matt only help I can give is look along top & bottom of chain for a tensioner it will be a round rubber wheel. If you cant find a tensioner it will more than likely you need to cut the chain down. If your not sure how to let me know & i'll let you know how. Also DO NOT USE IT while chain is loose as if you do & chain comes off you can crack engine case which then means a new engine
make sure filter is clean not gunked up..try draining carb if there is a plug if not.Then try to clean the carb the jets could be clogged not hard at all to take apart.Good luck
