2004 yamaha kodiak 400, ran great, now it won't start the next day. kill switch was left on. slid it over, turned it on like i usually do to start it, nothing but a red light (temp ?). it was very cold the past FOREVER it seems. the blower comes on. battery is fully charged and good. IT sounds like it is the pickups not working (.telling it to spark) if not then it will be CDI UNIT OR ENGINE GENERATOR COILS

replace your battery although you have 12 volts your battery is producing very little amps not even enough to energize your start relay let alone your starter motor

I did one about a year ago & it was the pulser coil(black plastic pickup next to magneto behind L/H engine cover) but

1. I'm not suggesting that this is definatly the fault
2. But id check it first
3. I havent got the spec for it but got it from my Yamaha dealer easy enough(you'll need the wire colours as well)
4. contact me back if you can't get them and i'll see what I can do(it'll be another week before I can get it as my phone is shot! blew the line clean out of the wall in a storm a couple of weeks ago)

you have a switch going bad or a wire grounding out to one of the switches
either the neutral safety switch or the reverse light switch

I had the same problem on my 2003 Kodiak. It ended up being the CDI Box. The Warn Winch was the cause. I had to replace the CDI Box on my twice before figuring out it had to do with the winch since it happened only after using it. I used the winch before when new and never had a problem.
