Check your starter relay. Put a volt meter on your batt and make sure you have high 12s or 13volts. Follow your red wire from your battery to the relay (solenoid). If wires are loose, poor connection or if it is bad this could be the cause. Next thing would be to bypass the relay and connect straight to the starter. Use the wire connected to the relay. If it does not turn over nice and fast now it is either your connection to the starter or a bad starter.
Why do you think its running hot? Change the oil to a little heavier in the summer. pressure wash the cylinder and head, radiator, remove the thermostat.
