I have just acquired a 2004 450S Honda Foreman quad with 20,000k on the clock. When I switch on in neutral (green light) the starter will crank the engine vigorously, but it will not fire up. I have turned the fuel on, (confirmed by whiff of petrol out of the exhaust), but it doesn't want to start. Temperature now about 27c, and previously had no problem at lower levels. Have tried with wide range of choke settings ( form zero to full on) to no avail. Is there something really dumb I'm missing?

Hi it sounds like the starter solinoid or starter relay is not working or there could be a loose wire or the starter motor is faulty

i had this problem before,i suggest first replacing starter valve w/ a chinese equivelent part(cheaper than honda but the same),can also replace w/ manual enrichener plunger, but it is inconveinent to access, or what i did was seal off plunger hole and squirted gas through fuel line and a primer bulb, teeing off from main fuel line run spigot fitting into plunger bore and jb weld to seal.now mount primer bulb in convienent location.definitely an unauthorized repair and a little tedious to fabricate ,but works like a charm, as those starter valves are notorious for not working correctly.
SOURCE: will only run with full choke and absolutely no throttle.
Carbs gummed up. Need a serious cleaning or a full ruubers replacement/rebuild kit. Gas turns to gummy when left stting in the fuel bowls.
Use a couple of cans of Sea Foam.. best stuff in the world.

Check the fuses too and basically all the wiring, there could be somewhere a loose connection also check the wires at the solenoid switch.

Sounds like a bad battery. It can show 12 volts, but not have any amperage. It could be the solenoid, but the dash lights wouldn't be affected by a bad solenoid.
