I have a '96 Sportsman 400 2-stroke with electronic ignition. The atv has sat for about 2 months and will not start now. I charged the battery up and run it down trying to start it. In my opinion, I thought it could be the Kill Switch because when you are trying to start it, the crank case will jump as if its trying to crank. I do have a spark to the plug, fuel is good, and everything.
If your atv has been sitting this long, the carb is probably stopped up internally... take the carb to a qualified professional and have it cleaned and set...(take a few pictures so you know where all the hoses re-attach)
ALL it takes for an engine to run is:
1. A timed spark
2. Adequate compression
3. Proper fuel/air ratio delivered

alternator just like a car or if thats not the problem your regulator rectifier is bad

You have a faulty switch, or it has corrosion in it, moving the switch through it's full travel rapidly for a while to clean the inner contacts may cure the problem, or try disconnecting the switch.
Could be time to replace battery, this is most likely the culprit. These fourwheelers are very picky when it comes to low power. Your starter is also most likely just fine, the clicking you hear is the solenoid on the starter, so your battery has some juice, but not enough amps to turn over the starter. Also If the fourwheeler has sat for a long time then you may just need to charge the battery. The 2007 is most likely fuel inject which uses even more fuel when running and it also has its own computer kind of like a PCM in a car or truck. These all need a good supply of power and the stator which is like an alternator usually needs the help of a fully charged battery to keep everything running properly. Also note, once you get a new battery or charge it in some cases the ATV should run smoother.
replace the battery as there is not enough charge to start and provide power for the ignition
when you pull start the max power is provided to the ignition system
Testimonial: "bill: I failed to mention the engine turns over and over fine. Could battery still be the problem?"
