Replacing Zoeller switch after water got in the case?

I imagine you asked the plumber why the pump is running continuously and he replied as you said but what he simply meant was, because water is in the sump. I'll address pump switch failure later. So the question should be why is water continually entering the sump. It could be because the water table level is high but its been my experience a sump pump runs nonstop because water expelled by the pump is flowing directly back into the sump.Have you asked neighbors if their pumps run nonstop? Do you have continuous standing water around your home?If you don't have standing water around your home and your neighbors dont have the problem with their sump pumps running nonstop then the most likely cause is the pump outlet is flowing back into the sump. In other words, its continuously recirculating the same water. Here's how I"ve diagnosed this issue in the past. Install a temporary 1 1/2 inch pvc line to discharge the pump outlet on the ground a minimum 20 feet from the house foundation on ground with a downward slope. This gets the pump outlet far enough away from the house that water should not re-enter the house sump. If your pump then cycles normally, you know the problem is because water from the pump outlet is reentering the sump. Then it's a matter of determining why the original pump outlet is flowing back into the sump.As for pump failures... most sump pumps are not designed for continous duty and the switches are of marginal quality. I alleviated the switch issue by zip tying the switch float of the pump up so it is always on and installed a seperate sump float switch that will last longer than the original.

Can the float be adjusted on a Zoeller M53 sump pump?

The float is not adjustable. I've used the superior switch (link below) for similar type of pumps. I just secure the original pump float in a permanent on position with a tie wrap. I do this when the OEM pump switches begin to fail, which they are notorious (the infamous rigid lifetime warranty fiasco). https://www.homedepot.com/p/Superior-Pump-Verticnal-Float-Switch-92010/206494794?MERCH=REC-_-PIPHorizontal2_rr-_-205618047-_-206494794-_-N

I have a battery backup for my Zoeller Switch mate

hi as you say this unit has not been used for years possible cause for not working : when battery are not used for long time it almost impossible to recharge them . if you plug is fitted with fuse check for corrosion at the fitting point also check that fuse it ok. most probably is that the impeller of the pump is jammed where corrosion has taken place and or if left unclean when last used (years back ) the slug may well stops it from spinning

Pump is not working - removed it and cleaned it -when I hold the pump and tun it on I get a shock. Help :(

Isolate the pump from the electricity supply...!!!! Could be a fault with the windings or the electrical connection. As you're getting a shock, that's the first place to look. If water is getting into the electrical side then the seals have failed and you might need to replace it...

Replace the battery first. It is cheaper than a whole pump. The battery is constantly being charged and will go bad after time even though it does not get used.

Have a Zoeller 710 backup sump pump and keeps blowing fuse, whats the problem?

Make sure the impeller is as clean and clear as possible, anything clogging it and restricting its rotation will cause it to blow a fuse. If tis not turning easily and feely most likely the bearing is starting ti seize up.

I have a non auto pump and want to use it with a float and also wire it so that the float can be bypassed by push button controller, hence manual operation any help please

You install two wires at the two terminals on the float switch to a switch so that when the switch is toggled the wires will act like the float switch has closed and make the pump operate.

If there is a door that opens to set or make adjustments on the unit, check to see if there is a screw in that area to possibly gain access to the battery compartment. Or check their website for a manual.
