first check if the problem is only on the handset, or if it happens on the speakerphone as well. if the problem exists on speakerphone then (as long as you are sure the issue is not with the SIP service provider, or with the other end of the conversation) the entire unit needs to be replaced... if the problem disappeared when put on speaker phone, then the issue is with the handset, or the handset cord. replace the handset cord and test again, if the issue remains then the handset needs replacing
