Q: So your brand new Yamata FY920 needle will not go when the Power Foot-Peddle is pressed. A: If it is new, there is little chance any part is worn out. The most likely cause is that the Power Train has been disengaged as if to wind a Bobbin. The Handwheel, on the Left side (the top wheel), has a slide-switch in the middle of the hub. Slide that switch in the other direction and your Power Train should now be engaged again, allowing the Needle to go Up and Down when the Power Foot-Peddle is pressed. That should do the trick to get the Needle to sew again. [ P.S. That's a nice machine, but be careful when you clean it, since the markings have been known to run if any kind of solvent, or even some plastics, come in contact with them. ] Hope this helps. There are two black plastic locks on each side (shown with errors). Turn them to release the front ring. Pull the ring and whats behind it out then clear your jam. If the black plastic knobs are too hard to turn then loosen the philips screw that hold them a little then retighten when done.

Something is out of alignment on your machine. You should probably take it for service. Flying needle shards can be very dangerous.

Make sure you're using the correct size needle for the fabric you're sewing. Delicate / Very light weight.... china silk, fine lace, organza....size 8 or 9 .....Light weight taffeta, lining fabric, thin velvet, synthetic sheers size 9, 10 or 11.... Medium weight cotton nylon, crepe, knits, flannel, spandex, linen, poplin, wool, muslin size 12 or 14..... Heavy weight fleece denim, leather, vinyl upholstery fabric size 14 or 16....Very heavy weight ; heavy canvas ; thick leather size 16 or 18

Have you searched online yet? Usually each manufacturer has a website with downloadable manuals for all of their machines. If you can't find it there, I've had some luck on EBay and Etsy. Hope this helps.
