HelloThe remote controls for Yamaha are very difficult to get from open electronic spare part market; and is very difficult to synchronise with other universal remote controls. Even though it can be synchronised with any universal remote controls, all functions will not work properly. So it is best to get an orginal one. Contact the Authorised Service Center for Yamaha at your town. They can provide you the orginal one. The cost will be a little bit more, but original is original. OK.

Hi Mark,
If you have necessary tools and test instruments, know safety precaution in basic troubleshooting try the steps below to solve your problem.
Assuming that the disc is good.
1.Clean the lens. - Sometimes because of dust the lens can't read any disc. Try clean the lens by soft cotton buds. Be careful while doing this.
2.Check the ribbon - Check the ribbon connected to the lens from the main board for scratch, damage. Once it has an open line then of course the lens can't read the disc. Also try to erase the contact by pencil eraser. If you've done the steps above and the symptoms still there then the next step requires you a little knowledge in soldering technique and reading the ohmmeter.
3.Check the Spindle motor - Check the motor that spin the disc with an ohmmeter. You can test it using the ohmmeter (x1) even it is connected on the lens assembly.Good motor - reading should be fairly high and it will spin. Bad motor- reading will drop to low resistance and will not spin.
Hint : 50% of my repaired unit the above parts are commonly caused of the problem.
If you confirmed that you have a defective motor then replace it with a new one. Before replacing the new motor you have to check the clearance of the disc holder with the old one. The clearance should be the same as the old because if not the lens will not read the disc if it is too far or too close.
If the above steps didn't cure the problem, high chance that your optical lens was faulty.

If you can't do the job yourself, I would advice you to look for a professional to troubleshoot the symptom.

Hope I helped you.
Have a nice day!
Thanks for using Fixya.

Hello,

the X2 button cannot be removed when it is pressed, it will certainly remain on the screen of your TV because that's how it was made.

But you can try this, look for OSD (on screen display) on your remote, if you find it, press it severally, and if doesn't remove it, then there is nothing you can do.

Good luck.

Hi it sounds like you have condensation in the dvd unit.

Take the dvd out if you can,if not don`t worry.
Go to a warm room, plug dvd in to the mains and leave for 2-3 hours .Then try again...fingers crossed!

1) Connect to TV
2) Power on DVD
3) Enter 7777 using remote
4) Use on-screen menu to change region code (region code 0 = region-code free)
5) Power off DVD

The DVD is now region code free.
or

The Hack Procedure:
- Power On
- Open Tray
- Press 9879 0 (0 stands for Multiregion, you may press buttons 1 to 6 to choose a specific region)
- A Message appears stating that "The Reg.No was changed to: [insert whatever region (0-6) you selected here]"

That's all, now you can watch every DVD you please... :)

or

Additional Information:
To get further info on your player do the following:
- Power On
- Open Tray
- Press 966
- This should show a screen listing RC, Firmware- and OS-Version, Manufacturer Label, etc.

I don't know if this will work but I can atleast try to help

1) Open the disc tray.
2) While the tray is open, enter the following code with the remote's numeric pad: 2812
3) To change the region code, press the "Enter" button repeatedly. "Region 9" means all regions will be enabled.
4) Close the tray to save the desired setting.

Other Zoran Vaddis 776 based players have other options on this screen (such as Macrovision Enable/Disable) but this player only offers the region code setting (note the unused available space for other menu options).

If you press "Display" on the remote, the firmware version will be displayed.

or
1. Press "Eject"
2. Press "Setup"
3. Press 3x on the right "Präferenzen-Setup"
4. Press 7x Down "Land"
5. Press 1, 3, 7, 9
6. And 0 for code free
7. Press "Play"

Normal 0 MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman";} If you’re any good with computers, it’s a standard hard disk - you can take it out very easily, stick it in a PC, and format it. That should work OK. If you’re not any good with computers, maybe you know somebody who is? Apart from that, to take it out, you just open the case, disconnect a ribbon cable, a power cable (plugs for both just pull out) and 4 screws, then out it comes.

Alternatively, you could get a very big hammer and smash it to pieces, which is what I feel like doing with mine...

  • Download the firmware update from:
  • Extract the file to your hard drive and burn the 11121213.BIN to the root directory of a CD. Use Standard ISO9660 Format and finalize the CD. Don't use Joliet, multi-session or XA Format!
  • The CD title must be P80J0001. Don't copy both firmware versions on one CD. You have to use separate CDs.
  • Insert the ready CD into the DVD-Player and press Play when prompted.
  • When the CD drive opens take out the CD and wait about 1-2 minutes.
  • The DVD player will be reset automatically

This can only be done on some dvd players unfortunatly. They are locked to regions because of the video format types that vary from country to country.
