When mine did the same thing, I just sprayed each mechanism with some spray lubricant to free it up, worked great. Same in the latches. WD-40 to the rescue.

I'm having the same problem! Did you ever find a solution? I was thinking of taking the whole rack apart.

The locks work fine when there's no gear loaded,

sounds like a pressure issue ( binding problem ) --- when you go to lock the locks ( with the skis and/or snowboard on rack ) try and push down hard on the rack while you turn the locks,, this might get the pressure off enough to allow the lock cams to pass. if this does not work then the next thing to do is to file down and modify the lock cams so they turn easier without binding. if you do not have the tools to do this modification then you can always go down to your local locksmith shop ( with the skis/snowboard on the rack ) and have them do the modifications -- the shop will only charge you around 10 to 15 dollars for this service.
I hope this helps,

I have two different SKS cores. One for my

You have to replace the SKS cores you don't want with mates to the ones you do want.

I would suggest replacing the snowboard cores with ones that are the same # as your towers since then you are only replacing 2 cores instead of 4 and it is cheaper.

The key should have a number on it that tells you what core it goes too. You can either contact yakima and get the exact cores you need or go into your local dealer and see if they have them in stock or can order for you.
