That means there is no communication. There is a system error that is probably a fatal error. You could try updating the firmware.

You can't. It is hard wired in programmed memory. The reason is because most Xerox printed are supplied on a consumables deal where you have to buy toner direct at a slightly inflated price to cover the lowered lease cost of the machine. These machine also 'phone home' for interrogation..

The machine locks you out. Yes, you need to call for service. The usual explanation is that the office junior didn't know and ordered stationery from 'Discount Toners R Us'.
