Winco PSS8000 Standby Generator won't start

This question is too vague to give you a good answer. But since it's coming up very high on Google searches, and I recently solved the same problem on the same generator, I thought I'd add a few notes here for others. In my case, the engine would take a lot of cranking before it would start, and eventually refused to start altogether. If your engine won't even crank, ignore the rest of this, you have a different problem (starter, battery, cables, or solenoid). I'm also going to assume that you've checked easy stuff like the fuel supply, spark plug wires attached, etc. The PSS8000 runs on propane or natural gas. If it's cranking for a while and not starting, you should smell gas (not gasoline, gas like the gas grill before you light it). If not, then you have a fuel problem. In my case, all the usual stuff was fine but still no start. The problem was: low compression caused by negative valve clearance. Apparently gaseous fuels wear valves and seats faster than gasoline -- as a result the valve clearance (which is supposed to be a small positive amount) is reduced so the valves are basically held open a tiny bit all the time. This causes several nasty problems, but in my case the main one was low compression. As a result of that, the engine had a hard time starting. So in addition to all of the usual stuff (plugs, spark, fuel, etc.) check your valve clearance -- you're supposed to do it every season anyway. On my engine the correct clearance is 0.004-0.006" for both intake and exhaust.

Motor runs does not generate power

inwingiroux,

Without more information I will have to go through all the scenarios. If the unit is old you could have bad brushes and need to replace them. If the unit is not old you probably have a blown voltage regulator and need to replace that.

Parts can be obtained at http://www.jackssmallengineshop.com at a great price. They have about anything we could need.

Thanks for using FixYa and for the great rating.

If induction cooker does not heat the pot

Induction-compatible cookware contains contains iron or has a layer with magnetic properties. Cast iron, enamel cast iron and most types of stainless steel cookware are all induction compatible (But not all types; for instance, All-Clad's MC2 line, which is made of aluminum and stainless steel, is not induction compatible)

I hooked up. it dont produce power. It has set for a long time. why

If the generator doesn't have a auto field field flasher it possibe it has lost its residual magnetism. If also it is a manual pull stater the same thing can happen. Simply reflash the rotor field and it should again generate power. The procedure varies from manufacture to manufacture.

Coleman Powermate 6250/500 PM0545005 has power to just one side of the 120/240 outlet. the 120 volt outlets have none. Ran just fine onr week ago

The capacitor has no bearing as you have output on one leg. Take or have an electrician check the power from L1 to N and L2 to N right as it comes off the generator stator, before any breakers and receptacles. If you have no power still on one leg, the stator is bad. The rotor is fine as you indicate you have power on one leg, you may have lost one set of windings in sthe stator. Good Luck

A friend living in the country bought a Ryobi

It's best to run all electronics through a UPS and surge protector. Small generators like the RG-950 are really for small power tools and lighting. The Ryobi RG-950 is only rated 650 watts which really means about 450 watts (70%) for continuous use. In general, a basic desktop or a laptop should be OK. A TV up to 25 inches and a 100w lamp, should be OK. If you try doing both at the same time, expect smoke followed by lights out. A UPS and Surge Protector are a must on small generators due to their poor voltage and frequency regulation. The UPS should be a good quality one that deals with Brownout, Overvoltage, and frequency deviation. ALWAYS USE A SURGE PROTECTOR!

Generator's motor continues to run butb generator stops supplying power after 10 minutes.

this model has an electronic voltage regulator this might be your problem sometimes when gen sets are left outside the little critters and such get in there and build there homes on top of something and that makes it get hot when we finnaly use the gen set , this overheats the part and hence we need to replace the part , if left outside I take fine mesh screen and cover all the air gaps in my stuff cus this has got me in past more than once
